Character mistake: Dexter tells Harrison he was around his age when he started exhibiting violent tendencies. However, in the original series, Dexter was considerably younger, as flashbacks detailed that a pre-pubescent Dexter would kill animals. One episode even showed that a dog that a very young Deb brought home had to be taken back, as Harry feared that Dexter would kill it.

Cold Snap - S1-E1

Other mistake: When Angela first approaches Audrey in the crowd of protesters, you can see Tess in the background, and her mouth movement is not synchronized with the words the other protesters are saying. You can see her mouth "Save the planet" a split second before the crowd says "Shame on you." (00:28:07)

Trivia: One of the main reasons for this series being made was because fans generally had a very negative reception to how the original series ended. While this series as a whole was liked by fans compared to the later seasons of the original series and despite the efforts of the creators to give fans a more satisfying ending, the finale seemed to upset fans more than that of its predecessor. As of this writing, it even has a lower IMDB rating.

Trivia: The makeup design worn by the clown that Dexter kills in the flashback is almost exactly the same as Joaquin Phoenix from Joker. Harrison even refers to Dexter being like Batman.

Trivia: When Batista is pulling up the picture of Dexter and Angela on his computer, if you look closely, you can see some of the emails in his inbox are from Detective Quinn and Vince Masuka, two supporting characters from the original series.

Continuity mistake: It is stated multiple times that forensics reports showed that the Bay Harbor Butcher used ketamine to incapacitate his victims. However, it wasn't ketamine that Dexter used in the original series, but rather M99.
