Les Miserables (1998)

A truncated but terrific adaptation of the classic novel with great production design, an underrated score by Basil Poledouris and phenomenal performances by Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, Uma Thurman and Claire Danes.

Wedding Crashers (2005)

A funny and quotable buddy comedy with a hilarious cameo by Will Ferrell.

Unbreakable (2000)

An engrossing and thoughtful superhero movie far ahead of its time.

Watchmen (2009)

It's not a perfect adaptation of the graphic novel, but it is a worthy one. The aesthetic is spot on, as are some of the casting choices and performances, especially that of Jackie Earl Haley as Rorschach.

X-Men (1992)

A great and generally faithful adaption of the comics that also serves as a great introductory to the characters and themes for those not already familiar with them.

Despicable Me 2 (2013)

Out of the hundreds of movies I've seen in theaters, this is the only one I ever wanted to walk out of. All the characters are unlikable and obnoxious, and the Minions are just plain insufferable.

Phaneron

Far and away the best "X-Men" movie. The plot, the acting, the action sequences, the special effects, everything is top notch. The final scene, in my opinion, is the best final scene in any superhero movie.

Phaneron

Pure filmmaking. No flashy stunts, no elaborate special effects. Just engrossing slice-of-life drama anchored by compelling characters and fantastic performances.

The Walking Dead (2010)

The first three seasons were good, but this show quickly thereafter turned into a tedious and relentlessly repetitive circle-jerk, stuffed with idiotic characters, storylines that go nowhere, numerous filler episodes, inconsistent logic and terrible CGI. The basic plot structure of the show can be summarized as: 1. Main characters find a sanctuary from zombies. 2. The sanctuary is overrun with zombies and/or other characters that want the sanctuary for themselves. 3. Main characters must leave sanctuary and travel to find another sanctuary. Rinse-lather-repeat.

A top-notch parody with nonstop laughs that stands the test of time.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

A great and gory retelling of the Washington Irving classic with fantastic production design and the right amount of black humor.

The Simpsons (1989)

What can be said about this show that hasn't already been said? While it's not as good as it was in its golden years, the show has an undeniable legacy and influence and stands among the greatest shows of all time.

The Ring (2002)

A great horror film with a genuinely creepy and unsettling atmosphere.

Phaneron

A live-action "Itchy & Scratchy" cartoon with scenery-chewing villains. The Punisher in this film is also somewhat of an idiot.

The Punisher (2004)

Easily the best Punisher movie. A great origin story/character study with terrific action scenes and a fantastic performance from Thomas Jane in the title role.

Justice League (2017)

Despite some good performances, the film is extremely underwhelming with some unforgivably bad CGI. What should have been DC's answer to "The Avengers" felt like a by-the-numbers action film and not the event film it could have been.

Phaneron

Tarantino's best film. Smart, tense, funny, and one of the best movie villains ever.

Inception (2010)

A smart and mind-bending action/sci-fi/heist film with fantastic performances.

Futurama (1999)

A hilarious and clever animated comedy with some surprising poignant moments that tug at the heart strings.

From Hell (2001)

An engrossing murder mystery that admirably incorporates facts from the real-life Whitechapel murders into its otherwise fictional narrative.
