Factual error: In opening scene of of 1920s New York the Statue of Liberty is in view with the modern refurbished gold leaf torch, not the original iron and glass torch. Lady Liberty's torch was not replaced until October 8th, 1984.

Revealing mistake: In scene at the brothel, with the senator and the dead prostitute, the supposedly dead body is breathing in the last shot of her, just after Tom Hagen says "it'll be as if she never existed". (01:15:30)

Revealing mistake: When Celie is having her baby, and her sister brings the kettle of boiling water into the house, as she gets ready to pour the boiling water, she places her left hand on the "boiling" kettle. If it were really boiling water, she would have burned her hand in a second.
