Question: Why did they order the space station blown up at the end? I was under the impression it was already heading towards Earth, which would have made it burn up in the atmosphere?

Question: Why did they order the space station blown up at the end? I was under the impression it was already heading towards Earth, which would have made it burn up in the atmosphere?
Answer: An exploding bomb ensures immediate and total destruction and lessens the chance that others could escape like Snow and Emilie did or that the station could somehow be prevented from falling into Earth's atmosphere. Also, while a large object would burn up re-entering the Earth's atmosphere, there would still be significant debris that could hit land, possibly killing people on the ground.
