Trivia: The incident between Gibbs' dad and the German pilot is reference to an actual incident in WWII. A German fighter pilot, Lt. Franz Stigler, escorted a damaged B-17 piloted by Charlie Brown out of German airspace so it could safely return to England. The two became friends after reconnecting in 1990 until their deaths in 2008.
