General questions

I'm looking for a movie that came on HBO in the 80's. The movie was about a group of people who discovered that, I believe, a logging company was somehow getting chemicals in the water which caused everything to grow extremely large. They showed a tadpole that weighed about 5lbs, and at one point the group was attacked by an extremely large bear.

Answer: Prophecy, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079758/.

General questions

I am looking for the title of a film that I remember only the first scene of: it is not a porn film, but rather, if I recall, it is a fairly good, independent, offbeat drama. It starts with a sudden jolt - a couple are passionately having sex, the girl is on top and she is enjoying herself in an intense way. If anyone can tell me the name of this film (probably American, made in the past 10 years) I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Answer: Sounds like Basic Instinct.

M*A*S*H (1972)

Answer: The copyright information provided in the answer is wrong. Although there's a lot more to it, works published before 1978 are protected for 95 years (28 years for the initial term and 67 for the renewal term). "My Blue Heaven"'s copyrights were renewed in 1953 and 1957. Works published after 1977 are protected for the life of the artist plus 70 years. It should be noted that the movie "My Blue Heaven", starring Betty Grable, came out in Dec 1950 in which the song was sung during the credits, which would have been during the Korean War (not that I'm saying that's the reason for its use).

Answer: My guess is because Fats Domino's version was #17 on Billboard's charts for 1957. It helps identify the time period. And, I think, at the time copyright laws only protected material for 25 years after release so the song was free to use. Now, material is protected for 75 years.

The Korean War was fought between 1950-53. The song didn't exist yet.

Question: Does anyone know how the effect of Kermit riding the bicycle was done?

Answer: The closest thing to an answer is here, Martin Becker's obituary. His family states that it was a robotic Kermit on a bicycle. Outside of that, everyone else associated with the movie has been quiet on the subject. http://www.fridaythe13thfilms.com/saga/part5/martinbecker.html.

They used gyros in the wheels - Martin Becker made the first self-driving bike for that movie-now the same tech is used in the self-driving bikes seen in the Netherlands. -Diana Becker, Martin's widow.

General questions

I remember a cartoon a while ago, I think involving Bugs Bunny, where he had a magic wand and was being chased by someone (I'm almost sure NOT Elmer Fudd), ending up in an opera. The climax was the chaser singing on stage while Bugs (or whoever) kept using the magic wand and changing the singer's costume. Any ideas what this cartoon was called?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: It was not a bugs Bunny cartoon. It was a Tex Avery cartoon. Tex Avery's Musical Maestro (1951) Here is the write up: http://comics.ign.com/articles/649/649921p1.html.

Law & Order (1990)

Chosen answer: Going from memory: Stone gave a nice deal to the star witness against Masucci. He gave some deal to Beigel, the brother-in-law. The witness lied under oath: he was in the hospital and could have never heard the conversation he claimed he did. There was a mistrial declared, jeopardy had attached (Masucci could not be retried for the same crime) and Stone was bound by the deal he gave Biegel, and to the witness. Everyone won, except Stone. The testimony was planned.

General questions

I've noticed that in pretty much every movie that's set in the United States, if a phone number is mentioned, the first three digits are always 555. Why is this?

Answer: Because people end up dialing the phone numbers they hear in songs, television and movies. It becomes a major problem for the people with that phone number and results in lawsuits. 555 is the only prefix that will never be used as a phone number. There is only one 555 phone number, 555-1212, in every single area code and that is a number for information.

Question: What evidence linked Black to killing the Potters? After the movie I didn't understand how everyone could have been so completely wrong.

Answer: Black was thought to be the Potter's secret keeper and only the secret keeper could have directed Voldemort to the Potters. There was a showdown on a street between Pettigrew and Black, after the Potters were killed, where many people died. Since Black was the only one to live, and they found only Pettigrew's finger, everyone assumed Black did the killing. No one knew that Pettingrew, along with Black, and James Potter, were animagi.
