Wrecked - S6-E10

Visible crew/equipment: Just after Dawn says "I like the trailers", we fade to black/commercials, then up again. Keep a close eye on the left side of the screen - you can see what looks like someone's hand flash into frame for a second, despite Dawn being alone in the room - looks like the director's hand signalling action. Potential - S7-E12

Trivia: Obvious with hindsight, but less so at the time. Kennedy is later revealed to be gay, and her interest in Willow is hinted at but not stated outright. However, when all the potentials are playing with the weapons, Rona grabs a stake, saying "I like the feel of wood in my hand". Kennedy arrives mid-way through that line, and says "lost me there". Possibly her thinking it's just a "middle of the conversation" comment, or just a blatant indicator of her sexual preference.

Season 7 generally

Trivia: After Giles comes back, eventually people start suspecting that he's the First. However, he's around for many episodes before that - take note of how he doesn't come into contact with anything (the First isn't corporeal so can't touch things). Very well done.

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: He wished to return to live in England with his family, so made an agreement that he would take a reduced role in the series.

Help - S7-E4

Continuity mistake: Towards the end, when Buffy stops the arrow, when she first grabs it her hand drops down to Cassie's mouth level, and her arm's bent at the elbow. When we cut to another angle it's now held at arm's length and at about eye level.

Villains - S6-E20

Revealing mistake: As Willow walks through the forest pursuing Warren, just after we first see Warren running, there's a shot of Willow walking into a bit of a clearing. Her shadow crosses a tree on the right (could be caused by the moon), but then a couple of seconds later another shadow is visible on a tree to the left - obviously an artificially lit forest. Shadow - S5-E8

Continuity mistake: When Joyce is talking to Buffy about the shadow, after she says "sometimes weeks", she turns towards Buffy. In the next shot she's facing away from her, then turns to face her again. (00:10:55)

Shadow - S5-E8

Continuity mistake: When Buffy comes in to talk to her mum about the CAT scan, we hear her shut the door behind her. We then cut to a shot of Buffy, and can see the door slightly ajar in the background. (00:10:30)

Fool For Love - S5-E7

Question: In this episode we see some of Spike's history - when he's human there's a bit where he walks down a street tearing up his poetry and bumps past Angel and Darla. We don't see their faces, but it's obviously them. I remember an episode of Angel when we see a flashback of Spike still human - can anyone remember the episode, and am I right in thinking that the bit we see is exactly the same moment in history, but we're focusing on Angel and Darla instead?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: This would be the episode "Darla", and, yes, it's exactly the same moment - I'm pretty sure that the same shot is used. In a nice bit of coordination, Darla is Angel episode 2.7, which corresponds exactly to Fool For Love, which is Buffy episode 5.7. - at the time, I think, the two series were shown on the same night, one after the other, making the two episodes, in effect, a double-length history lesson on the vampires of this particular bloodline. In an even nicer bit of coordination, this particular scene occurs at about the same point in each episode (around the 15-minute mark).

Doomed - S4-E11

Question: Specific answer needed, not a general "dialogue is sometimes re-recorded". Near the start of this episode, Buffy's talking to Giles about the significance of the earthquake. Buffy's dialogue sounds completely normal and recorded at the time, but all of Giles' dialogue is dubbed. I can only think he had a sore throat that day or similar, but does anyone know the specific reason he did his later?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: He had larangitis and because of the shooting specifications they had to have him shoot the scene with a bad throat, they then re-recorded his lines and dubbed them. At various points during the scene and indeed the episode you can see him touch his throat or rub it.

Pangs - S4-E8

Continuity mistake: When Xander falls through the ground, he lands with his arm on, or very near a bit of wood, but in a closer shot of him just before he gets up, the wood's disappeared and other rubble has moved around too.

Graduation Day (2) - S3-E22

Continuity mistake: When Wesley and Cordelia kiss, after a few seconds they freeze in place. Cordelia has her left arm around his waist, we see a shot of her face for about a second with her arm definitely angled downwards, then we cut to Wes' face and her hand's now on his neck. (00:25:20)

Show generally

Question: Was the Angel spin-off created because it was time for the character to be written out of Buffy but Angel was too good a creation to ditch, or was the character written out because people thought a spin-off would be a better idea?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: Joss Whedon claims to have had the idea for a spin-off series while watching David Boreanaz's performance in the late second season episode "I Only Have Eyes For You" - he began to feel that Boreanaz would be capable of carrying his own series. From that point on, taking Angel off to his own show was on Joss's mind and many of the events of the third season were written with this intention.

Choices - S3-E19

Continuity mistake: When Willow hands Giles the pages she stole from the books of ascension, initially the folded side faces to the left, with loose edges of pages to the right, then in the next shot the folded edge is now on the right. (00:36:25)
