Continuity mistake: In the scene where Van Gogh cuts his ear off, he smothers his right ear with a towel to stop the bleeding. As the movie continues, we notice that throughout the whole movie his left ear was the one missing not the right ear as initially portrayed.

Lust for Life (1956)
Directed by: Vincente Minnelli, George Cukor
Starring: Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, James Donald, Pamela Brown
Trivia: Anthony Quinn won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role of Paul Gaugin, even though he was only on screen for eight minutes.
Vincent Van Gogh: I tried to show a place where a man can ruin himself, go mad... commit a crime.
Paul Gauguin: With all your talk of emotion, all I see when I look at your work is just that you paint too fast.
Vincent Van Gogh: You look too fast.
Anton Mauve: Oh, Vincent. I'm sorry to put off seeing you, but we artists have to be selfish, you know. We have to save our ourselves. After all with each painting, we die a little.
