The Squid and the Whale

Factual error: During one of the many driving scenes we see many cars on the side streets. At one point you can see a Mercedes-Benz ML SUV parked on a corner. This model SUV was not made until 2000-2001. Since the movie is set in the mid 80's this is impossible.

Frank Scialdone

Factual error: In the middle of the movie, Walt is waiting on a subway platform. A train goes by, and you can see an American flag on the side of the train. Flag decals weren't put on New York subway trains until after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Factual error: When the Berkmans are speaking to Walt's teacher about his plagiarism of the song "Hey You" by Pink Floyd during his performance during the talent show, there is a poster behind the teacher featuring the WWE wrestler Hurricane. This wrestler made his WWE debut in 2001.

Walt Berkman: It's Welles' masterpiece, really. Many people think it's Citizen Kane, but Magnificent Ambersons, if it hadn't been ruined by the studio, would've been his crowning achievement. As it is, it's still brilliant. It's the old story, genius not being recognized by the industry.
Lance: It sounds great. Who's in it?
Walt Berkman: Orson Welles? I don't know, I haven't seen it yet. I've seen stills.

Walt Berkman: Ls Mom letting you drink soda?
Frank Berkman: Beer.
Walt Berkman: Since when do you drink beer?
Frank Berkman: Since recently.

Joan Berkman: You're calling me a bitch?
