Red Dragon mistake picture

Factual error: In the scene when Will is opening the drawer of films from the Leeds home, there is clearly a copy of Mrs. Doubtfire in the left column of tapes. How can that be? Red Dragon is clearly set "several years" after 1980, as the caption says, but before the 1991 Silence of the Lambs, but "Mrs. Doubtfire" came out in 1993.

New this week Suggested correction: It happens before the *events* of Silence of the Lambs. Just because Silence was released in 1991 doesn't mean that the events in it canonically occurred in-world in 1991.

"Red Dragon" is set in the 80's. It starts in 1980 in which Lecter is sentence to life. Then it jumps forward 6 years, so 1986 or so, depending on how long the first act took.

Continuity mistake: When Emily Watson first strokes the tiger on the table her watch says 11:15, on the next stroke her watch says 11:20. Then the doctor hands her the stethoscope and her watch says 12:00.

Continuity mistake: When we first see Will Graham (Ed Norton) investigating the Jacobi household it is night time, yet once he is inside and heading up the stairs, the window behind him clearly shows dayight.

Trivia: During the scene when Dolarhyde takes Reba to the zoo, the tiger she pets is not sedated. Because of the humane society they could not sedate the tiger. Instead the trainer is to the left just out of the shot keeping the tiger calm.

Trivia: Frankie Faison reprises his role as Barney from "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Hannibal." He is the only actor to appear in all four Hannibal Lecter films, having played Lt. Fisk in "Manhunter."

Will Graham: I thought you might enjoy the challenge. See if you're smarter than the person I'm looking for.
Hannibal Lecter: Then by implication, you think you're smarter than I am, since it was you who caught me.
Will Graham: No. I know I'm not smarter than you.
Hannibal Lecter: Then how did you catch me?
Will Graham: You had...disadvantages.
Hannibal Lecter: What disadvantages?
Will Graham: You're insane.

Hannibal Lecter: So, you'll be wanting lots of these little chinwags, I take it.
Will Graham: I might not have time.
Hannibal Lecter: I do. I have oodles.

Question: How did Dolarhyde pick the women that he would kill?

Chosen answer: The two familes had their home movies sent to Chromalux for developing. Dolarhyde is the director of technical services, so he has access to every tape that Chromalux recieves. He discovered Mrs. Leeds and Mrs. Jacobi through their respective home movies.

Question: When Graham is talking to his wife about joining Crawford on the investigation, she says something about "we're all paid up, even Josh." What does she mean by this?

Chosen answer: What she means is that Graham (and, by extension, his family) has served his country enough, including suffering serious injury and mental trauma in the course of his duties. She feels that, whatever moral debt they might owe their country, they've paid it in full, Graham directly through his actions, and she and Josh through the negative effects his work and its consequences have had on them.

Question: Was there any specific reason that Dolarhyde chose his victims other than through home movies? Was there anything about the families that made him want to kill them?

Chosen answer: His choices had to do with the layout of peoples' property. At his job, he studied customers' family video tapes that contained scenes of their homes and yards. He looked for seclusion around the properties, easy-access back entrances, whether there was a family dog that would bark, and so on.
