Joy Ride

Joy Ride (2001)

Continuity mistake: The antenna of the CB radio switches sides on the car continuously.

Continuity mistake: On the DVD, you can watch the "Original Ending". In this version, Fuller ends up in a cop jacket and hat right before and during the corn field scene. In a shot from the actual ending, you can see Fuller wearing the jacket and hat...but it's only for about 5 seconds. I guess they forgot to edit it out when they changed the endings.

Continuity mistake: After Fuller and his brother get the CB put on their car, they head out on the highway. You can see that the film has been reversed. The yellow line are on the right side of the road, and Paul Walker and the steering wheel are on the right side of the car.

Trivia: Eric Stoltz was nearly cast for the role of "Rusty Nail", but director John Dahl felt Stoltz didn't sound scary and intense enough so the part was given to Dahl's first choice, Ted Levine.

Question: Why was the name of this movie changed from Joy Ride in the US to Roadkill in Australia and UK? Can't be due to different meanings of "joy riding", as that's the same in the US and UK.

Chosen answer: I'm from Ireland, but I would guess that the name change is due to the changing attitude of people in those countries (and in Ireland too) to the term "joy riding". Whenever it is used in the media here it is generally preceded with the term "so-called" or it it is surrounded by inverted commas to indicate irony. This reflects the increasing disapproval of the term by the public. The term is used reluctantly and only because it is so well established.

Question: Could someone please explain the ending of this movie? Am I right when I conclude that Rusty Nail planted the Ice Truck guy's body in the driver's seat and then got away leaving cops to think the Ice Truck guy was the killer? I think I'm missing something here because that ending would be ridiculously unrealistic. Thank you.

Chosen answer: That's exactly what happened leaving room for the sequel, if they make one.

Question: How exactly did Rusty Nail find Charlotte, or Fuller and Lewis for that matter?

Chosen answer: For Fuller and Lewis, the best assumption is that he never actually left the first motel. He stayed at or near the motel, followed them to the police station, and then continued following them up untill the point where he makes his presence to them known again. Or he also could have just parked his rig somewhere far down the road and waited for their car to pass him, and at which point he would start following them. And for Charlotte, he probably just followed Fuller and Lewis all the way to the college, saw Charlotte, and then kidnapped her while she was leaving.
