Night Owls

Continuity mistake: When the Police Chief switches off the piano, Officer Kennedy is pointing his gun down, but in the next shot Kennedy is holding his gun up and lowers it a second time.

Continuity mistake: When Oliver catches Stan playing with a musical toy, he takes the toy from Stan and throws him. When this happens, the robbery bag that Stan is holding changes from right hand to left hand between shots.

Continuity mistake: When Stan and Oliver are in the chief's house looking for items to pinch, Stan has a robbery bag in his hand, whereas a few scenes earlier he had dropped it on the ground outside the house.

Continuity mistake: When Stan whistles to Oliver when he opens the window, the crowbar which Oliver is holding switches from his right hand to left hand between shots.

Continuity mistake: When Oliver hears Stan's accident whilst trying to break through a window, he is holding a crowbar in his left hand, but in the next shot the crowbar is now in his right hand.

Continuity mistake: When Oliver is trying to put out the burning curtain, Stan throws a goldfish bowl of water over Oliver and he is now wet. When Oliver opens the front door and lets Stan out, he appears completely dry.

Continuity mistake: When Stan runs away from Oliver after he stepped on to the hose and sprayed water into Oliver's face, there is nothing in Stan's top coat pocket, but when Stan comes to the window in the next shot, a candle suddenly appears.

Continuity mistake: When Stan rips Oliver's trousers when he is pulling him up on the wall, a robbery bag is by Oliver's elbow. But in a close-up of Oliver, the bag has disappeared.

Continuity mistake: When Oliver says "Come on, let's go!" to Stan after he has put the candlestick holder in his pocket, Stan has the candle in his right hand. When Stan drops the bag on to Oliver's foot in the next shot, the candle is now in the top pocket of Stan's coat.

Continuity mistake: When Oliver says "Come on, let's go!" to Stan, you can see that Oliver is by the wall and Stan is next to him. In the next shot, the two have changed positions.

Continuity mistake: When James Finlayson rolls down the stairs, he breaks a vase at the bottom, which appears intact a few scenes later.

Continuity mistake: Edgar Kennedy plays a cop who persuades Laurel & Hardy to break into the police chief's home so he can arrest them and "get in good with the Chief." Jimmy Finlayson plays the Chief's servant. When he hears noises, he stumbles at the top of the stairs and falls down the staircase. When he lands (it is obviously a stunt double), he is sprawled parallel to the stairs with his legs pointing to the right. In the close-up, he has reversed position and his legs are pointing to the left.
