Factual error: Towards the end of the movie, an Australian F/A-18E Superhornet is shown destroying the aliens, complete with Australian pilot. Firstly, the Ensign displayed on his helmet is incorrect. Australia doesn't operate any of those aircraft, only 2 seat F/A-18F and older F/A-18A Classic Hornets.
Suggested correction: A close examination of the F/A-18s in this sequence shows the correct configuration for 'legacy' F/A-18s, including the distinctive straight engine intakes that is the most obvious difference between the F/A-18A to D models and the later F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Therefore the aircraft do correctly resemble RAAF F/A-18A's. A better question is where they have come from considering that RAAF F/A-18s are not carrier capable or qualified.
Factual error: At the very start of the movie, when they zoom in a planet that is "too cold" the temperature of the planet is shown as -314 C. The maximum negative temperature is 273.15 C, which would be absolute zero. Also when zoomed in, the further right in the screen, the colder it gets, a maximum of -415 C can be seen. (00:01:44)
Factual error: All Iowa class battleships, including the Missouri, have their 100+ underwater openings closed off/capped to prevent water intake while parked in museum configuration. (See recent upkeep photos of USS New Jersey in Camden dry dock.) These caps would need to be removed in dry dock prior to being able to run engines. (Caps over water intakes.) Removal of caps on USS New Jersey requires blowtorching each. Minimum time would be at least a week.
Factual error: At the Award Ceremony, Alex is announced as a Lt Commander, but he is wearing Lieutenant's stripes on his shoulder. (01:57:22)
Suggested correction: It was a spot promotion that he didn't know he was getting. The Admiral called him LCDR to let him know he was getting promoted.
Factual error: During the soccer match with Japan, Hopper is kicked in the face and had blood coming from his nose onto his lips and chin. Then while talking to a Japanese player the blood is gone, then a few seconds later when he makes the penalty kick the blood is back on his face.
