Factual error: In the scene in Dirk Bogarde's apartment where he and Charlotte Rampling are trapped, Rampling toys with a tobacco pipe for a while and eventually lights it using a Bic cigarette lighter for the task. Bic lighters were only introduced in 1973 but the movie is set in 1957. (01:00:00)
