Factual error: When SGT Sanborn is placing the items in the white box, you can see his special skill badges. He has an EOD badge placed above his Combat Infantryman's Badge which should never happen. While it is possible for an EOD member to have a CIB (second MOS), no badge is ever worn above the CIB, EIB, or CAB. (00:09:25)

While investigating a tank explosion, Eldridge is captured by terrorists. James and Sanborn shoot the men who captured him, but accidentally shoot Eldridge. Eldridge is put in a helicopter and flown to a hospital. Two days before the team ships back home, they encounter a suicide bomber who begs to be saved. James tries to remove the bomb, but it is padlocked to the man. James tells the man that he's sorry before he runs away and the bomb explodes. James returns home for a brief time and spends time with his wife and son. James returns to Iraq for another year defusing bombs.

Answer: It's a term similar to "a world of hurt". It's both outside of you and within you. The outside definition is that a hurt locker is anywhere you go to find pain. In the film's case, war-torn Iraq is the hurt locker. Inside, your hurt locker is the place you bury your anguish.
