Katie imagined Embry coming back to stalk her - in actuality, she caved his head in with a rock when he declared he was going to leave her two years earlier. When Wade tells her she's not going with him to New Hampshire, she clobbers him with the same rock and his body falls into the same flooded basement where Embry's body has been all this time. Flash forward a couple years after that, Katie's boyfriend at the firm where she works is breaking up with her, and we are left to speculate if he ends up dead too.
