Factual error: The creature Jess catches in the greenhouse is a Common Brushtail Possum, which is only found in New Zealand and Australia. Though the film was shot in New Zealand, it is supposed to be set in Lark Creek, Virginia, a rural area in the southern part of the United States.

Continuity mistake: When May Belle rushes to Jesse because of the phone call, as she hands the phone to him it flips to the opposite position between shots, and then back again - note its antenna. (01:05:55)

Question: What happens to Leslie's mom at the end of the film? It seems like her dad up and moves away by himself.
