I watched this movie on YouTube for free. Used to own it on VHS.
I used to really like this movie as a kid. It was one of those I'd pop my VHS copy in to my VCR every now and then when wasn't watching a Disney movie, or watching Last Action Hero for the 500th time and enjoyed it. Though I was too young to really grasp all the jokes and story so much back then.
Yet I hadn't seen this movie in probably 20 years or so. Well a few weeks ago, it was free to watch on YouTube. I decided it was finally time to revisit this childhood memory and see if it held up.
Well boy howdy does it ever. This movie was WAY better than I remembered it being! And it's hilarious. Now that I'm older (35 as of writing this), a lot of the jokes and humor land much better now and I understand the story probably much more than when I was a kid.
And now I remember that how this movie, along with Enemy Mine (1985), Dragonheart (1996), and Frequency (2000), as to why Dennis Quaid became one of my favorite actors.
Anyways, so about the movie... I wonder if this is what spawn movies like Osmosis Jones, as it's about a guy who gets shrunken down in a small ship to a micro level, and is intended to be injected inside a rabbit to study it from the inside. But things go horribly wrong and he is injected into the unsuspecting man at a grocery store with anxiety problems, played by Martin Short. And from there, well it's off to the races. A hilarious sci-fi action comedy with all sorts of twists and turns, and a heart melting moment with an unborn child that will make any grown man cry.
If you've never seen Innerspace, you must give it a watch. Seeing it again, brought back so many memories and this is for sure a top nostalgic movie for me.
Mistake Status: Being one of my favorite childhood movies, i for sure plan to comb though this for mistakes at some point after I order the DVD. Not sure when I'll get to it, but it is one I want to do.
In a comedic rip-off Fantastic Voyage, Dennis Quaid is a pilot stuck mostly in the body of Martin Short, miniaturized and on the run from criminals! It's up to Quaid, Short and Meg Ryan as his girlfriend/reporter to stop the bad guys and restore Quaid to normal. Silly but fun per both Joe Dante and Steven Spielberg.
Victor Scrimshaw: In lieu of champagne, how about some real pain? Propane?
Trivia: After Scrimshaw and Canker are shrunk 50%, there are a few scenes where they are seen with full-size actors. These shots were actually filmed using forced perspective. For the car scene, the rear of the car is actually twice as large as a normal car rear, and was about 20 feet away. During the scene half size hands and double-size heads were used. Using this method, the film-makers didn't have to worry about compositing two separate shots in post production, so the shots could be completed quicker. Even in the final scene with the suitcase, the case was twice as large, but the hand that closes it was real, closer to the camera in sync with the closing. (It took about 20 takes before it was perfect).
Question: When Tuck is inside Jack he can't go through the heart - is this because Jack would have a heart attack or because Tuck would die?
Answer: I would say both probably.

Answer: Probably, but most likely it's because Jack's pod is fragile and wouldn't survive the shock wave heartbeats. The pod is experimental and built for scientific observation, not battle.
