A letter arrives announcing that Jules was accepted into the Juliard School of Dance. Jules' mom asks Sammie to respond to Juliard's Dean of Admissions for Jules. Sitting in the spot in the woods where Sammie and Jules used to go all the time, Sammie writes "Dear Mr. Dean of Admissions, Jules Michaels won't be attending Juliard this year because she died..." Sammie finishes the letter, and remembers all the fun she had with her best friend while she was still alive. The very end of the movie shows Sammie dancing, finally realizing that she had not simply been in the shadow of Jules all her life, that she loved to dance ballet and had talent all her own.
