A young girl names Casey casts a spell to bring her dead mother back to life that goes awry when she instead casts it on the Barbie-esque doll Eve given to her by her father's sort-of love interest. Eve has a hard time accepting the fact that the real world is not like her world of plastic make believe, but Casey's genuine grief over the loss of her mother and her developing attachment for her life-size friend have a positive impact on them both.

Continuity mistake: When Eve is making a special treat and it starts on fire. She sprays a fire extinguisher onto it. It shows foam covering only one side of the food. Then, it shows the food again a few seconds later and it is completely covered. (01:01:50)
