Nicholas Cage helps Patricia Arquette cope with the decline in her father's health. However, unable to watch how much her father suffers (he is brought back from cardiac arrest 15 times) Nicholas Cage finally ends the old man's misery by switching off the ventilator. The old man dies. Nicholas Cage consoles Patricia Arquette and the scene closes on both of them haven fallen alseep together in her apartment. We are led to understand that Nicholas Cage finally gets his a decent sleep.
