Continuity mistake: Halfway through the movie, James Caan drives his jeep to escape Nazi brigades and brings his wounded comrade to the hospital. He is wearing full dress, with jacket. After he holds the doctor at gunpoint to "check" his friend, the scene switches outside where he is smoking a cigarette without the jacket, then flashes back with him wearing the jacket. (01:41:00)

Factual error: During the 9th SS Hohenstaufen assault on the bridge, the lead vehicle (the one that gets destroyed first) is a four-wheeled vehicle disguised as an Sd.Kfz .221 armoured car but not the actual vehicle. (01:22:45)

Revealing mistake: As Sean Connery steps on board the aircraft, at the top left two aircraft are shown flying overhead, but backwards, presumably stock footage run that way for some reason. (00:39:20)

Suggested correction: The fighters are not flying backwards. Simple as that.

Factual error: As they storm the bridge there is a row of modern sodium street lights prominently visible that didn't arrive until the 70s.

German Aide: Excuse me for interrupting, but ... British paratroopers have apparently landed. Three kilometers from here.
Field Marshal Model: Why should they do that? There's nothing valuable here. I! I am valuable here! They have all come to capture me!

Trivia: The Bridge in the film is not the one near Arnhem. It is a bridge over the river Ijsel near Deventer. This bridge stood in for Arnhem bridge as there was a car park adjacent to the bridge where a number of buildings were constructed for Col. Frost's epic stand. Also note the numerous modern traffic signs and roadmarkings.

Question: In the scene where the American 82nd Airborne is storming the river bank at Nijmegen, there is a brief shot of one of the German defenders, who looks quite startingly like a puberescent boy. Anyone know whether this assumption is correct, and if so, what's the background to this story?

Chosen answer: The Germans did use some Hitler youth movement in the war.
