Audio problem: When the boys are beating up Mikey during the flag football type game, he knees one of the kids in the crotch. An African American boy then says "man you should start wearing a cup." The boy's mouth doesn't match.
Audio problem: After Bobby says the "F" word, he says "someone get me soap, I'll do it myself." His mouth doesn't match.
Factual error: In the scene where Bobby and Mike go into the comic book store, you can clearly see a Transformers comic on the shelf. But the movie is set in the late 1960's/early 1970's....and Transformers did not come out until the 1980's.
Trivia: The film was originally intended to be directed by its writer, David Mickey Evans; however, Columbia felt he was too inexperienced, so it was given to Richard Donner. Evans would go on to write and direct The Sandlot. He wrote a novella based on the script for this film, which included many parts originally cut from the film, including the different ending.
Answer: Deliberate production choice, and to show him from the younger child's point of view - also remember The King, when in his drunken state, is a child abuser, so the younger boy will see him as a large and terrifying presence - that is, so big he won't fit in the frame of the shot.
