The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Continuity mistake: During the battle at Amon Hen, Legolas says, "The Horn of Gondor!" Aragorn then rushes past him so close that he has to lean backwards to let him pass. In the next wide shot, Aragorn runs past Legolas again but this time further apart. (01:18:20)

Revealing mistake: When Arwen enters the water after being chased by the Ringwraiths, as she turns the horse, you can clearly see the fake hobbit (representing an injured Frodo), bounce up and down like a rubber band. (01:18:50)

Continuity mistake: During the end fight scene with the Uruk-hai, the fight scene takes place on the side of a hill for the most part, but you can see that sometimes the sunlight shines down the hill and sometimes it shines across the hill, meaning it was filmed at different times of the day. (01:18:50)

Continuity mistake: When the Nazgul confront Arwen across the river, they draw their swords in their left hands. In the next shot this changes to their right. (01:19:10)

Continuity mistake: When Gandalf and Elrond are talking about Frodo and his ability to withstand the power of the Ring, when the camera is in wide view you can see Gandalf holding his pipe in his hand with the stem near his chin, when the camera angle changes to a close up view of Gandalf the stem is nowhere to been seen. It happens about 4 times during the entire scene as the camera angle changes. (01:19:21)

Continuity mistake: At Amon Hen while battling the Uruk-hai, Legolas yells to Aragorn, "Aragorn, go." In the next far wide shot, we see Aragorn run between the statue and Legolas, reaching the pillar. In the very next close-up, Aragorn is just running past the statue on his left, as Legolas kills two Uruks with one arrow. (01:19:25)

Revealing mistake: There are quite a few times where the Uruk-hai fitted skins wrinkle, crease or even bubble up where they shouldn't. Some examples are at Amon Hen, when the Uruk-hai show up and they fight Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas and Gimli. (01:19:25)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring mistake picture

Continuity mistake: After Lurtz releases his first arrow at Boromir, one of the Hobbit stand-ins is seen to Boromir's left, throwing stones. The next shot is of Merry and Pippin standing close together, looking at Boromir to their left - they have moved position to the other side of him. (01:19:35)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring mistake picture

Continuity mistake: After Arwen has crossed the Ford of Bruinen and is challenged by the Ringwraith Witch-King, she draws her sword and holds it high and ready to strike. Arwen then calls upon the waters of the river for assistance. When the rush of water with horses' heads comes around the bend and into view there is a clear shot of Arwen's back as she is watching the water come down on the Ringwraiths and she is not holding her sword up. Shortly after all the Ringwraith's are swept away, there is a scene of Arwen's face and upper body and she is still holding the sword high and ready to strike. (01:19:40)

Continuity mistake: At Amon Hen, when Merry and Pippin realize that Frodo needs to leave, they start jumping up and down and shouting to get the attention of the Uruk-hai. While they jump up and down, in the back shot, Pippin is behind Merry, but in the front shot, Pippin is in front of Merry. (01:20:20)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring mistake picture

Continuity mistake: At Amon Hen, Merry and Pippin run from the Uruk-hai after distracting them from Frodo's escape. After they run over the bridge, the next shot is of the two of them stopping short when Merry sees more oncoming Uruk-hai. In this shot it is only Pippin's Elven brooch that is facing the opposite way it normally faces. (01:20:55)

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: After diverting the Uruk-hai at Amon Hen, Pippin and Merry run. Just before Boromir comes to their rescue, in the far shot, they are seen running over a stone bridge and Pippin is in front of Merry. In the very next close-up, Merry is running in front of Pippin. (01:20:55)

Continuity mistake: When Arwen is being chased on horseback through the woods by the Ringwraiths, at one point her face gets grazed by a tree branch, which leaves a long red scratch on her right cheek. In the following shot from up behind the horse she's riding, when she turns around one more time to see where the Wraiths are, her face is conspicuously unblemished, only to have the scratch re"surfaced" on subsequent close-ups. Also, during this long flight to the Ford sequence it is quite discernible in many cuts by cueing on her face (esp'ly in slo-mo) that the rider is a stunt double. (01:21:10)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring mistake picture

Revealing mistake: At the end of the film, there is a shot when Aragorn fights an Uruk-hai, just before Aragorn's back is up against the tree (before Legolas shoots six Uruks in a row). Look at the Uruk-hai's left arm, Aragorn rips two big holes with his fingers, in the Uruk-hai's skin. (01:21:20)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring mistake picture

Continuity mistake: At the end of the Amon Hen battle scene, where Boromir has been shot by Lurtz, there is a close-up of Lurtz's feet (as if from Boromir's POV) showing Lurtz striding over and stopping in front of him. The ground is clear all around his feet. The shot then changes to a wide shot, from the side, and there are orc corpses piled up all around. None of these were visible before, but should have been. (01:21:20)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the Amon Hen battle scene, at the start of the fight with Lurtz, Aragorn is slammed backwards against a tree knocking his sword out of his hand. There is then a shot of Lurtz throwing his shield at Aragorn, and in the following shot, where the shield pins Aragorn against the tree, his sword is still in his hand, only to fly out again on the shield's impact. (01:21:45)

Continuity mistake: When Boromir blows the Horn of Gondor in the close-up (the second time he is seen doing it), slung around his neck are both sides of the horn's attached rope in front of his torso, as he drops the horn to grasp the sword with both hands to fight the Uruk beside him. In the following shots it varies, the horn is either slung over the same way or it is slung over his shoulder, with one side of the rope at his back! (01:22:05)

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: Boromir is blowing the Horn of Gondor, Aragorn is running to him, fighting Uruk-Hai on the way. At one point he stabs one through the stomach and is chased closely by three Uruk-Hai. When he slices another in the leg and then the neck, the three chasing closely behind him aren't in these two shots. They were too close to Aragorn not to be seen in those two shots. (01:22:05)

Continuity mistake: Aragorn's mouth is badly bloodied when he is headbutted by Lurtz, but the blood disappears almost immediately. (01:22:10)

Continuity mistake: At Amon Hen, just after Boromir blows the Horn again, in the two wide shots, Pippin holds his sword with his right hand. In the next close-up, Pippin holds it in his left hand. Also seen behind Pippin in this close-up, is Boromir's sword already sticking up out of an Uruk. In the very next wide shot, showing Pippin jumping onto an Uruk, seen between Pippin and the Uruk, is Boromir's sword in the body and Boromir is just removing his hand from it. (01:22:10)

Sam: [Worried.] Does she?
