Plot summary
Directed by: David Gordon Green
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Will Patton, Kyle Richards
Four years later, Haddonfield is still recovering from the killing spree of evil Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle). Michael's childhood home was demolished. Michael has hidden himself in a sewer tunnel, now not quite as invulnerable as he was before. Michael's wounds from the first two films have become infected, and his mask is also damaged. Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) is trying to find peace after the death of her daughter Karen (Judy Greer), but several residents blame her for Michael's evil. The sister of Sondra Dickerson (Diva Tyler) blames Laurie for the fact that Michael destroyed Sondra's ability to talk. Despite his bravery in trying to hunt Michael and stop the hospital mob in the second film, Omar Barker (Omar Dorsey) resigned from his sheriff position after Michael's last killing spree. Allyson (Andi Matichak) works at Haddonfield Memorial Clinic. Her coworker is the beautiful nurse Deb Jennings (Michele Dawson). Deb wants Allyson to join her at a Halloween party hosted by 1978 Halloween survivor Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards).
Meanwhile, young Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) has been vilified for accidentally killing the boy he was babysitting. Allyson meets Corey after bullies cause him to injure his hand and tries to bond with him. Allyson and Corey attend the Halloween party where Deb greets them. Like other residents, Deb sees Corey as a monster and doesn't believe the boy's death was an accident. Later that night, the bullies throw Corey over the side of a bridge, and he lands in front of the sewer tunnel and is dragged inside by Michael Myers. When Corey attempts to escape, Michael grabs him by the throat but lets him go after seeing the same evil in Corey's eyes that Michael has in his own. When a homeless man threatens Corey outside the tunnel, Corey kills him. After this, Corey begins targeting those who antagonized him. The next morning, Allyson's boss Dr. Mathis passes Allyson over for a promotion in favor of Deb, as Dr. Mathis and Deb are having an affair. While Allyson and Corey are at a diner, Allyson's ex Doug Mulaney harasses them. Corey later lures Doug into Michael's tunnel lair, where Michael kills Doug. Killing Doug energizes Michael, restoring his strength and no longer restricting him to the tunnel. The next morning, Allyson angrily tells Deb to shut up when Deb talks excitedly about boogeyman Michael Myers, despite knowing Allyson and Laurie were nearly killed by him. Dr. Mathis and Deb go to Mathis' house, where Mathis hopes to continue his affair with the beautiful Deb.
Unknown to Allyson, Corey targets Deb and Dr. Mathis at Dr. Mathis' house. Corey kills Mathis with a corkscrew in front of the horrified Deb. Corey chases Deb back to the bedroom, where Deb slams the sliding door on his injured hand. Corey bangs and kicks the door but can't get in. Just as Deb tries to call the cops, Michael Myers opens a door behind Deb, grabs her by the throat, and slams her against the wall. Michael lifts Deb off the floor. Deb unsuccessfully tries to break free from Michael's grip. Michael stabs Deb in the chest, pinning her to the wall with the knife while Corey watches excitedly. Before dying, Deb realises Corey and Michael Myers have teamed up. Michael tilts his head to the side curiously while watching Deb die. Blood drips from Deb's bare feet. On Halloween, Corey fights Michael and steals his mask. Corey kills the bullies, his mother and WURG radio DJ Willy the Kid (Keraun Harris), who had earlier insulted him. Corey attempts to kill Laurie, who never trusted him in the first place. Michael arrives to retrieve his mask and kills Corey. Laurie and Michael battle each other. Laurie whacks Michael with a fire extinguisher, but Michael slams her face into a glass cabinet and throws her on the floor, where he tries to crush her windpipe with his boot, but she kicks him in the knee. Michael slams Laurie against the fridge and the dish rack. Over the kitchen sink, Michael tries to force Laurie's hand into the garbage disposal but Laurie slams the back of her head into his face, knocking him back. Laurie attacks Michael with a knitting needle, but Michael grabs the needle and attacks Laurie with it. Laurie starts pulling up Michael's mask. While Michael pulls the mask back down, Laurie stabs his three-fingered hand, pinning it to the table. Laurie takes a chair and whacks Michael in the face, then takes another knife and stabs him in the chest and pins his good hand. She slams the fridge down on his legs and stabs him in the ribcage. Laurie removes Michael's mask and slits his throat. Michael suddenly frees his good hand and attempts to choke Laurie, but Allyson arrives and breaks his arm. Laurie then slits Michael's wrist which also causes severe blood loss, killing Michael and avenging Judith Myers and all of Michael's other victims. Though not shown on screen, the cops did go to Dr. Mathis' house and found Deb's body stuck to the wall in the bedroom.
After tying Michael's body on top of Allyson's car, Laurie, Allyson, Barker (now sheriff again), and Frank Hawkins (Will Patton) begin a funeral procession through the town. Sondra, Julian (Jibrail Nantambu), who witnessed the murder of his babysitter Vicky (Virginia Gardner) in the first film, and all other residents affected by Michael's evil get to see that Michael Myers is dead. They take Michael's body to an industrial shredder and dump him in the shredder, destroying Michael Myers for good. Allyson leaves Haddonfield, Laurie attempts to find peace with Frank, and Haddonfield can now have a new, good future. At the same time, Laurie keeps Michael's mask in her house, leaving the question of whether or not she will be corrupted by the mask.
Laurie Strode: Come and get me, motherfucker.
Trivia: In a multi-layered homage, the movie that Corey and Jeremy are watching is 1982's "The Thing" which is a remake of "The Thing From Another World", which is the movie that Laurie and Tommy are watching in the original "Halloween." Oh, and of course, "The Thing" was also directed by John Carpenter.
Question: Michael dragged Corey into the sewers with the intent of killing him. Why did Michael let him go?

Answer: The implication seems to be that there is some sort of subliminal connection between the two that they both pick up on. I personally took it as Michael somehow subconsciously feeling the "evil" brewing within Corey... almost as though he sees his own evil in Corey. Thus, he lets him go and subsequently "teams up" with him later on. They're a twisted form of kindred spirits.
