Amityville Uprising

Stupidity: Officer Malloy was trying to fix reception problems on a small TV at the police station while Lt. Stevenson was listening to Gerri Tauver reporting on the explosion that happened in Suffolk County. Stevenson told Malloy, "Just play with the wire... I need to fix this. I need to find out what's going on from the explosion this morning." A police lieutenant could have easily called the fire department chief or officers on the scene to get first-hand information, not depend on a TV news report. (00:09:09 - 00:10:54)

Stupidity: At the police station, a bucket of tools was left along the wall within a couple inches of the jail cell door where so-called "Amityville Strangler" Joe Gallo was detained. Gallo was able to reach the tools, use something to unlock his cell, and have a weapon - sledgehammer - "to go." (00:46:57 - 00:57:30)

Factual error: Sam Cooper's Rx label was for Alprazolam (generic Xanax) 2 mg, qty #150, refill 2x, and "take 1 tablet by mouth as needed." "Must last _" length was not visible and there could have been warning stickers (may cause drowsiness) on the other side. However, Xanax is a fast-acting tranquilizer which should last 6 hours and the dosage should not exceed 10 mg per day. The instructions to "take 1 tablet by mouth as needed" should have had restrictions attached to prevent serious side-effects/death. (00:49:38)
