Other mistake: Jesse does not talk because of his traumatic childhood (which includes being kidnapped at a young age by Mr. Charlie), so it doesn't make much sense for him to be the narrator.

Revealing mistake: When Calvin was telling Nicky what Greg told him Charles was doing to Jesse (sexually abusing), the lit cigarette that Nicky was holding in his mouth touched Calvin's teeth and ashes flew (for real!). The actors playing Calvin and Nicky knew what happened but did not immediately stop - they stayed in character. It was obvious this scene was "cut." When the camera returned to filming, Calvin was standing a few feet away from Nicky and the cigarette was gone. (00:30:35)

Character mistake: A guidance counselor/principal told Calvin, "You're a very very smart young man. Perhaps even gifted. Last year you scored in the top ten percentile on the PSAT..." Because Calvin deliberately "blew" the SAT, the school official was going to make arrangements for Calvin to retake it. But this would not be necessary. The PSAT score (out of 1520) is considered equal to the SAT score (1600). The school official would be more helpful by getting Calvin admitted to college using the PSAT score. (00:08:35)

Other mistake: Standing on the porch, Glen could hear Charlie talking to Jesse (sitting near the wall opposite the window). While peeking through the side of the curtain, a neighbor saw Glen and started yelling: "Hey! Hey, get the f - away from their window! Hello? Get over here!" If Glen could hear what was being said inside, Charlie and/or Jesse should have been able to hear a woman screaming not far from the porch. (00:29:31 - 00:30:03)

Continuity mistake: Nicky's facial hair shows less growth at times, within and between scenes. In particular, the amount of hair above and below his lips is the most obvious, but the darker (longer) and lighter (shorter) hair around the bottom of his face is also noticeable, as is the presence or absence of hair on his cheeks. Revealing mistake: The cement block section of the house by the front door that Greg was painting "changed" to a flat board for a short time and then went back to the blocks. (01:05:28)

Plot hole: Calvin's mom told him to go to school and "the school called and said you only been showing up for lunch." In the street, Calvin yelled, "Everybody, I'm going back to school. I'm going back." Calvin was not interested in school, so it is highly unlikely that he would be planning on going to college. There was little or no reason for him to take the 2-hour? PSAT or SAT. Other mistake: Calvin was from a poor family and lived in a bad neighborhood. The school official believed Calvin was "very very intelligent", "perhaps gifted", and pointed out that he scored "in the top ten percentile" on the PSAT. Regardless of intelligence, it is highly unlikely that a student like Calvin would score that high on the PSAT (more like "bottom 10 percentile"). PSAT and SAT scores are correlated with family income, social class, and parents' educational level. Poor smart kids get low scores. (00:08:35)
