Factual error: When they are in quarantine after returning to Earth, they are in a room with several magazines. One of the magazines is an issue of National Geographic with the cover image of them standing on the moon. That is the December 1969 issue of National Geographic, whereas they were actually in quarantine in late July/early August 1969.

First Man has Ryan Gosling starring as Engineer Neil Armstrong and details the training and experiences that he, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins have before and after they leave earth and make history as the first astronauts to reach the moon! The film manages to capture quite faithfully the excitement and dangers of their mission while focusing on the Neil Armstrong and his family, who had just lost a toddler daughter when he is given the opportunity of his lifetime. If you enjoyed the documentaries and film footage regarding the moon landing, this movie brings it all together in a riveting way.
This was a really good movie. What First Man does best is capture the struggle and determination of its real life ambitions very well. The scenes involving space flight put the viewer right into Neil Armstrong’s shoes, and the claustrophobia, tension and realism is felt throughout. The lead performance by Ryan Gosling, as well as the supporting performance by Claire Foy are both excellent and ground the movie very well.
There are some minor issues. For one, I found it a little difficult getting into the movie in the first act, and the side characters did not feel as investing as Armstrong or his wife, but these issues are fairly minor.
More mistakes in First Man
Janet Armstrong: What are the chances you're not coming back? Those kids, they don't have a father anymore! So you're gonna sit the boys down, and prepare them for the fact that you might never come home.
Question: A lot of fuss was made over the omission of the lunar flag planting in this movie. However, when I saw the movie in the theater, I distinctly remember seeing the flag on the moon, just not the actual planting. However, that particular shot seems to be missing in the home video release. Does anyone know the reason for this?
