Other mistake: It makes no sense for Ryuji's head to be surrounded by so much blood in the autopsy room. We're shown the table is built so the blood drains down, so why is there such a massive pattern of blood around his head, on the sides and railings, etc.? It almost looks like blood was spraying everywhere... that doesn't happen in autopsies.

Other mistake: When Ando begins the autopsy, he glances up and says, "Shall we begin?" to someone. However, in the next shot, the other doctor is to the side of him and not in the direction he was looking.

Continuity mistake: When the detective is interviewing Mai with Ando near the beginning, Mai turns her face and the detective grabs it and turns her back. In the first shot, his hand is against her chin, but in the next shot, it's against her cheek.

Trivia: This sequel was filmed and released at the same time in 1998 as the first film - "Ringu." As the films were based on an incredibly popular book series, the studio thought that releasing the first movie and its sequel simultaneously would drastically increase profits - fans could see the first movie, then immediately pay for another ticket to see the sequel right after. Unfortunately, this tactic backfired. Few people saw this sequel in theaters and it garnered poor word-of-mouth, despite the fact the first film became incredibly popular. As a result, one year later, a new sequel - "Ringu 2" was produced that ignored this film entirely.
