Character mistake: A TV news announcer describes Alan Shepard's first manned launch into space as him being lifted to "an altitude of 116 miles per hour." That's not an altitude, that's a speed. It should have just been "116 miles."

Hidden Figures is a historical drama about three women of color who were gifted mathematicians that ultimately assisted NASA in getting John Glenn into space during a pivotal point during the US/Russia Space Race. Often dismissed and barred due to their gender and race, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson stand their ground and contribute to the success of NASA. This is a nice companion film to other movies about early space exploration and the people behind them.
-50/10.They could've done something good here. The first black women to work at NASA does sound like an interesting story to tell. What does Hollywood do?They make this into a movie about race with the usual gripes. It sickens me and others, no doubt, that in this day and age Hollywood's still obsessed with race. They take another good story and make it into a lousy movie.
Karl Zielinski: Mary, a person with an engineer's mind should be an engineer. You can't be a computer the rest of your life.
Mary Jackson: Mr. Zielinski, I'm a negro woman. I'm not gonna entertain the impossible.
Karl Zielinski: And I'm a Polish Jew whose parents died in a Nazi prison camp. Now I'm standing beneath a spaceship that's going to carry an astronaut to the stars. I think we can say we are living the impossible. Let me ask you, if you were a white male, would you wish to be an engineer?
Mary Jackson: I wouldn't have to. I'd already be one.
