Visible crew/equipment: When Bryson and Katz are getting onto the Greyhound bus, a guy in a fluorescent jacket can be seen holding traffic up in the distance whilst the scene is filmed.

Continuity mistake: In the motel lobby scene Katz is holding the sports section of a newspaper in his left hand when the old mute woman takes hold of his right hand. In the close-up shots of their hands the newspaper is now lying on the counter under their hands. As Katz moves away from the counter after she has released his hand her wrist is still resting on the counter but the newspaper has disappeared. (00:54:00)

Character mistake: When confronted by bears along the trail, Bryson identifies them as "Grizzly Bears", but the only bears that exist along the Appalachian trail are black bears. Grizzly are only in the Mountain states like Montana and Wyoming, and Alaska.

Bill Bryson: Writers don't retire. We either drink ourselves to death or blow our brains out.
TV Host: What will it be for you?
Bill Bryson: After this interview, probably both.
