Best sci-fi movie mistakes of 1987
Continuity mistake: The head of Mega-Maid mysteriously shrinks in size. After Spaceball-1 transforms into Mega-Maid, the head is gigantic enough for a Winnebago to fly through for a considerable length of time. However, later on in the film, after the head has been jettisoned and crashed on a beach, the head is only big enough to hold a few dozen people. This can be determined by the size of the people coming out of her nose.
Continuity mistake: Dick Jones brags (admits?) to Robocop, "I had to kill Bob Morton because he made a mistake. Now, it's time to erase that mistake" while Robocop is crouched on the ground, looking away from him from across the room. In the playback, Jones is facing the camera as though it were videotaped or filmed in a studio.

Continuity mistake: In the scene after the prison break, we see Richards, Weiss and Laughlin walking through the city. On the big television screen there is a commercial for The Running Man game show. The footage they feature on the commercial is footage from the episode Richards is in. How could they show footage from that episode if it has not taken place yet?
Revealing mistake: Mac and Dillon go after the Predator. The Predator is sitting in a tree, and Mac points him out to Dillon. They both agree that they see it and take position. Mac crawls underneath the alien and is killed by his laser. The Predator then sees Dillon and lasers his arm off. Dillon's arm falls to the ground with the gun firing. Quickly Dillon turns and reaches for the machine gun around his neck. When he turns you clearly see his bloody right stump and his right arm sticking out the bottom of his jacket. [Note: As far as I can work out, this has been cunningly edited out of the UK DVD version].
Revealing mistake: When Jack is hanging out of the truck you can see him standing on the hood of the car which Lydia is driving. At some points we get camera view from the back seat of the car. In some angles the mirror inside the car disappear. This is to prevent us from seeing the camera.
Continuity mistake: When the two cops pull the stripper over, their car stops in the middle of the road. When Beck and Gallagher pass them later, however, their car is closer to the pavement. Their car moves yet again when Beck looks back at them out of his window. Also notice that three headlights are now on, including one that the stripper blew out.
Continuity mistake: In the scene on the roof when the local hoodlum is attempting to take on the flying saucers you see the scene from two points of view. There are four people watching the local hoodlum getting fried. From the front, from left to right you see an old guy; a tall black guy; a women in pink and then a young guy with lots of hair. When seeing the scene from behind these watchers, you only see the old guy and the guy with the all the hair. Each time the angle changes the tall black guy and the women in pink are there.
Continuity mistake: When Valerie Vomit is about to steal the Pepsi truck, we see the driver standing behind the truck. In the next closeup we see a cord attached to his pants and the truck, which, as a result, rips his pants off as Valerie speeds off with the truck. Yet in the shot previous to this, there was no cord attached to his pants or the truck.
Continuity mistake: In the opening battle sequence, Cobra Commander takes a bomb and sets it for 3:00 minutes. As he flies with his jet pack to the Statue of Liberty, it counts down to 2:58. He lands and places the bomb, and laser blasts hit all around him before he turns and flies off. This takes about 5 seconds to do, but the timer on the bomb stays at 2:58 for the full time of him landing, placing the bomb, and flying away.
Factual error: In the farmhouse bedroom scene, the lead character wakes up and a close up shot of the alarm clock shows it is 5AM. Full sunlight is coming through the window, and an exterior shot shows the sun shining on the house and hay bales. The narrative lead-in just explained that it is early October on a farm near Dallas, Texas. The earliest sunrise occurs near Dallas in October is 6:40AM.
