Factual error: In the scene when Michael visits his father in the hospital in 1945 there's a NYC Fire Dept. Sign on the wall with the name of the Commissioner, Robert O. Lowery, who was commissioner from 1966 to 1973.
Factual error: When Charles Bronson is making a telephone call on a pay phone, a 1971 or like vintage Mustang is parked within view...out of place for the time the film is supposed to take place. There are other similar auto related mistakes, mixing thirties cars with late models in traffic scenes.
Factual error: The Liberty Bell is depicted ringing as the Declaration of Independence is being signed on July 4 (a mistake itself) in the film. The bell actually did not ring on that date, but on July 8, when the Declaration had been returned from the printer and unveiled to the public.
Factual error: Throughout the end there is fire everywhere. All of that fire would consume any oxygen that was in the rooms and fill the rooms with heavy black smoke. They are walking and climbing everywhere without the effects that the smoke and lack of oxygen would have caused.
Factual error: When Sally and Bryan are in the street, we can see, at their back, election posters. These posters appeared in 1932, one year after the movie is supposed to take place.
Factual error: Ulrika is present at the communion in Karl Oskar and Kristina's home, even though she's a Baptist at this point. Not only would she not want to come, or even be welcome since she was now practicing a different form of Christianity, she would not need to come. Being married to the Baptist minister she would be attending communion on a regular basis.
Factual error: The crazy lady, whose family (except the boy), were murdered by Indians, sings "Shall we gather at the river" after Jeremiah buries them. Only that wasn't written until 1864.
Factual error: In the beginning of the film the setting is very late summer or early fall as evidenced by the reference to getting back home in time to watch the football game on Sunday. Yet the deer that Ed shoots at is in the early stages of antler growth that appears to be more typical of late spring or early summer. The deer also appears to be some exotic species, not one of the whitetails that are native to Georgia.
Factual error: When the girl gets stabbed in the back, the blood should not come out that fast or go everywhere.
