Factual error: In the remastered DVD editions, on Doc Baker's wagon, you can see that the canvas wagon cover has a plastic window sewn into it.
Continuity mistake: Grace Snider Edwards was played by two different people with no explanation. Bonnie Bartlett played her all along, but Corinne Camacho played her for one episode only.
Revealing mistake: When Carrie (played by twins) falls down in the opening sequence, it appears that she gets back up and continues running. In reality, after falling, the other twin gets up and continues. If you look closely enough, you can see that when getting up, Carrie is slightly closer towards the camera than when the first twin fell.
Deliberate mistake: The house is in a field with no lights around it and should be dark at night, but during exterior shots at night, the house is always lit up on the outside and the interior shots always show very bright lights coming into every window (much brighter than when shown from the outside). There would not be lights that bright shining into the house during that time period. Obviously, just an effect so viewers can physically see the house and characters talking.
Other mistake: They mention baby Rose is about a year old when baby boy Wilder is born and his headstone reads, born August 12, died August 24, 1889. Then when Rose is taken, Charles announces it's the year 1896 in the introduction. She would have to be almost seven years old and not a toddler when she was snatched.
Suggested correction: If this timeframe of the kidnapping Rose was in 1896, she would have been even older. She would be 9 (or 10 if after Dec 5th of that year), not 7. She was born Dec 5, 1886.
Revealing mistake: In the episode where Baby Rose is sick with smallpox, you can see part of a modern disposable diaper under her cloth diaper when Doc Baker is checking for blisters.
Factual error: Aeroplane trails are in the sky throughout several episodes. This wouldn't have been possible in the time the show is set.
