Continuity mistake: When Tony and Rhodey go Tony’s new secret lab, Tony is on the right side of the lab and Rhodey goes over to him. Tony then presses a button for the Iron Man suit to be lowered and then they walk to it. But Tony arrives at it from the right side of the lab, while Rhodey comes from the left side.
Continuity mistake: The front car has an extension towards the top front showing the train’s number, 07. This is only on the front car, and the other 3 cars of the train do not have this. But after Tony busts through the first car and blasts the connection between it and the second car, you see that the extension and 07 are suddenly at the top of the second car. But as soon as the lead car breaks away and the camera changes angles and pulls back, the second car no longer has the extension.
Continuity mistake: Trying to stop the train, Tony’s Iron Man suit breaks the front door off and he plows through the first car. As he does, you see the door goes into the train as well and stops at the first seats on the right side, getting stuck there. Only seconds later after Tony separates the rest of the train from the lead car and turns back, the door that came off has now vanished.
Continuity mistake: As Tony is attempting to stop the train, the door he is pushing on gives out - he flies through the first car of the train and smashes into the next door. As he is getting up, you see the window of the door is a perfect square. Then the angle changes from outside and suddenly the window design changes, having an additional shape extending from the bottom right corner.
Continuity mistake: When Tony says he has to stop the train from hitting the building’s power generators, the camera zooms in on a train car at the entrance of Stark Tower by the tracks that has the generators on it, and there are two Stark International employees standing on the balcony beside it dressed fully in white. Only a couple seconds later, Tony flies down there to cut off the train, and suddenly the two guys have vanished.
Continuity mistake: As Tony is attempting to hack into Stark Tower with the Iron Man suit, Rhodey tells him a train is out of control and about to crash into the tower. The display on Rhodey’s screen shows the train is on a straight path with no turns directly towards the tower. But when it cuts to show the actual train, it is on a turn.
Revealing mistake: After Tony almost runs into a car after losing control, he flies back up and the road is still shown under him. That group of cars passes and after a brief moment of open road under him, a clone group of the exact same cars in the same lanes pass under him again before the shot changes.
Revealing mistake: Rhodey is helping Tony on his first flight in the Iron Man suit and is looking at a computer with green displays and diagrams indicating locations of structures and Iron Man in respect to them. It shows this twice, with Iron Man in different places, yet the screen that Rhodey looks at is exactly the same without changing.
Continuity mistake: As Tony is trying to stop the train by pushing on it with the Iron Man suit, you see the fingers of his right hand are outstretched fully and his hand flat against the door, with his pinkie right on the line between the black door and white wall of the train. It then cuts to a close up of his hand and suddenly his fingers are curled and his pinkie not anywhere close to the white part of the train.
Continuity mistake: When Tony first gets in his Iron Man suit to go spy on Stane, Rhodey is at Tony’s secret lab and still there when Tony lifts off. But when Tony emerges from the tunnel and flies at the city, Rhodey is somehow miraculously back at his own house in his room, sitting at a computer to guide Tony. He just traveled several miles and sat in a computer in an instant.
Continuity mistake: As Iron Man is making his first flight, he leaves his secret lab through a tunnel he flies up. At first, from exterior and from Tony’s perspective, the tunnel has elaborate designs inside and some sort of technology, like bright orange lines and other stuff along the walls. But just as Iron Man is exiting, suddenly the tunnel is a solid green color, almost looking concrete.
Continuity mistake: When Tony first gets in his Iron Man armor, you see when the mask closes there are separation lines on the face plate where the different pieces came together. Lines going down to his eyes, one down from those to his nose area, and some on the sides of his mouth going down to his chin. But moments later when the suit flies out of the box, you see that all the lines below the eyes have vanished, like it is one solid piece there now.
Continuity mistake: As Tony is first flying up with his Iron Man armor, the box opens in the tunnel and he flies out of it. In the tunnel there are two large orange light lines running along with it. They are not at opposite ends of the tunnel, one being at about 12 o clock, the other being at about 8. When the shot changes, suddenly the lines are at opposite ends, 12 and 6 o clock.
Continuity mistake: When Tony and Rhodey first go to Tony’s secret lab, there are numbers on doors around a circular wall in the lab. When they go in, the number 2 is behind the spot with the chamber holding the Iron Man armor. When Tony lowers the chamber holding the armor, the walls spin to have the number 4 behind that spot. But when Tony gets in the armor and the chamber goes up, the number 2 is now there again.

Continuity mistake: On his first flight with the Iron Man armor, Tony loses control trying to avoid a building and falls towards the road. As he is regaining his flight, the car he is heading right at is a gray vehicle. It then cuts to a close up from the reverse angle as Tony avoids the car and it suddenly becomes a yellow taxi as it swerves and stops in the road at an angle. Then the shot changes again as Tony is flying away and now the taxi has turned into a purple car.
Continuity mistake: After horsing around for a brief second with Rhodey, Tony’s heart alarm sounds that he needs to recharge. Concerned, Rhodey places his hand on Tony’s back and in this shot his mouth shows to be slightly open, teeth showing. The very next shot, his mouth is suddenly fully closed.
Continuity mistake: After separating the front car from the rest of the train, Tony attempts to stop the train from hitting some civilian cars on the road. First it shows a traffic jam with a single taxi right in the middle of it all. The taxi driver pops his head out the window and yells "Come on!" at the other cars. In this shot, he is not wearing a hat. But moments later as the train comes over the edge and Tony catches it in the Iron Man suit, the taxi driver steps out of his car to look up in fear, and suddenly he is wearing a green ball cap.
Continuity mistake: After Tony says he is going to use the Iron Man armor to spy on Stane, he and Rhodey goof off some and wrestle. In the first shot of this, you see Rhodey’s arm come on camera and grab Tony’s, as Tony moves his hand up towards his own face. When he does, his arm and hand cast a shadow on his neck and chest. The shot cuts to a side view and suddenly the shadow has completely vanished.
Continuity mistake: Right in the beginning, Tony is showing off his Iron Man armor to Rhodey and looks up after doing some welding. In the first shot, the welding mask is barely casting any shadows on his face, mostly towards his forehead. But then it cuts to a different angle and now the shadow comes all the way down past his eyes and on the bridge of his nose.
Continuity mistake: Tony stands on the roof of the school staring at Stark International and the camera zooms in on the logo. There is a seagull flying in slow motion. Just before the camera cuts to a close up, the bird’s wings are in an upward swoop. But then it cuts closer and suddenly the wings are going down before they finished going up.
Continuity mistake: Tony goes off to a warehouse with Rhodey and opens a secret entrance. The shot before the door opens shows Tony’s shadow is directly under him. A couple of shots later, Tony being in the same spot, his shadow is then elongated showing the light source has altered. Also, oddly enough, the mechanical structure he is next to casts no shadow.
Continuity mistake: The view of the teacher sitting down watching Tony teaching in awe shows a fellow student wearing a tan shirt with red shoulders stand up and begin walking behind the teacher. In his hand is the physics book, with the atom on the front cover facing out from the student towards his right. But in a front shot the student’s book has the front facing inwards towards him.
Continuity mistake: When Tony shows Rhodey the secret lab he’s been fixing up, Rhodey walks in and Tony is leaning against a large computer console. Behind him is a long white screen with blueprints shown, and on the far right is a blue spinning gear like thing in the blueprints. The camera cuts to a different angle as Rhodey walks up and the blueprints change, most noticeably having the gear diagram vanish.
Continuity mistake: After skimming through the physics book, he then closes it and you can see that the diagram of the atom is on the front and a light colored box is on the back. He closes it and the back is facing up towards him. But in the next shot, he picks it up and you can see the front of the book is facing him instead.
Continuity mistake: In Tony’s physics class, it first shows him flipping through the book. Just before the camera cuts, the page he is on at that moment shows three colored lines at the top of the page. It cuts to a top view and instantly the page he is on has the three colored lines at the bottom.
Continuity mistake: As Rhodey and Tony are walking through school and Tony asking why his dad wants this of him, a girl in an orange shirt stumbles and pushes through them, continuing on as she apologizes. First is a view from in front of the boys just before it cuts, and Rhodey’s arms slightly flare out and his eyes close with mouth open as she passes between them, and Tony’s mouth is open. It then cuts to a view from the other angle and suddenly Rhodey is standing almost perfectly still, hands at his side, eyes open and mouth shut. Tony’s mouth is also shut.
Continuity mistake: As Rhodey and Tony are walking by a building, Rhodey tells Tony to not worry, as in two years he can fire Stane. The first view shows their shadows directly under them, like the sun is at its zenith. It then cuts to a shot from above their heads and now their shadows are elongated and cast on the wall beside them.
Continuity mistake: The scene following where Tony kicks his backpack in rage starts with a distance shot panning down in front of a building. You can see the small figures of Tony and Rhodey walking beside the building in the distance, with nobody else around them. It then cuts to a close up of them and suddenly there are two people walking behind them.
Continuity mistake: After Tony talks with Obadiah Stane, he walks out of Stark International and Rhodey starts to ask "Hey how did it go?" While he says this, Tony gets furious and kicks his backpack across the street and Rhodey looks shocked. But just before the camera cuts, it is a close up of Rhodey’s face and he is just talking, then it cuts to a side view and pans by real fast as Tony has his outburst and Rhodey’s face is instantly showing the shocked expression.
Continuity mistake: Trish interrupts Tony and Obadiah’s conversation to tell him that his next appointment is here. Obadiah Stane then stands up from his chair and begins to walk. The camera cuts to a different angle and suddenly Stane is all the way at the end of the table, having jumped a good 6 or 7 feet in an instant.
Continuity mistake: In Obadiah Stane’s new office of Stark International, Tony goes to see him. Just after Tony begins speaking, Stane interrupts him and waves his arm around. The arm of his shadow is right next to the shadow of his chair and overlaps. But when it cuts to a frontal view of Stane, the shadow’s change around, and there is a lot of light between the shadow of his arm and the shadow of his chair.
Continuity mistake: On his way to go see Obadiah Stane, Tony sees Trish and calls out to her. The guard escorting him places his hand on Tony’s shoulder. From the front view, the guard’s thumb is positioned downward. But when it cuts to an angle from behind, his thumb is now half way extended out to the side.
Factual error: As Tony is being escorted to Obadiah Stane’s office six months after Howard’s death, there is a close up of Trish’s computer keyboard. Everything on the keyboard matches up how it’s supposed to be on a QWERTY layout, except rather than the 4 being between E/R or above the R, as is standard on all keyboards, it's between R/T. All the numbers are moved over from where they are supposed to be.
Continuity mistake: Tony and Rhodey are confronting a guard outside Stark International, and in the first shot of the guard, his chest is fully light up by the sunlight. A couple shots later, without him moving or changing positions, a side view of them shows the guard’s chest half covered in shadows.
Continuity mistake: As Rhodey tells the guard "You know. As in Stark International, the company you work for!" As he begins saying this, he raises his arm up, which casts a shadow on his chest. While he speaks, it cuts to a side angle and suddenly the shadow from his raised arm is gone.
Continuity mistake: When Tony and Rhodey are talking to the guard, trying to get into Stark International, there is a shot showing a woman walking away from them in a black skirt. A couple of shots later, the woman has disappeared and instead a couple is walking towards them holding hands.
Revealing mistake: After Howard’s death, Tony and Rhodey are trying to get back into Stark International. A guard is giving them a hard time and he is wearing some sort of shades and head piece. When it cuts to a close up of his face as he talks to the people inside, on the left side of his glasses near where it meets his hair, there is a texture glitch in the animation. The glass in one spot is flickering around like TV static.
Continuity mistake: After the plane explosion, a scene six months later is shown with Tony lying in bed with his chest piece now in that keeps him alive. The first shot shows it with some wire or designs of some sort protruding around it along his chest. Some of the ends overlap with the border of the central round piece. It then cuts to a closer view of the device as Tony’s alarm sounds, and suddenly the pieces do not overlap the circle at all, and some of them slightly change shape and position.
Continuity mistake: When Obadiah walks in Howard’s office, complaining that Howard rejected his proposal to repurpose the Earth Movers for military application, he is holding a folder in his hand marked confidential. There is a white label on it, and the tab is towards the upper right corner near his head. A few shots later, the folder is completely turned around, the white label and confidential stamp facing the other direction, with the tab by his legs now.
Continuity mistake: When Tony first walks in on Howard, Howard is looking through some hologram blueprints. He is talking to someone on his earpiece that at this point appears to be solid white with no extra components as it glows slightly purple from the hologram lights. A couple shots later as Tony walks up behind him, Howard’s earpiece is now black with lights and indentations on it.
Continuity mistake: Tony walks by some people in the Stark Lounge, and from a high angle their shadows are seen. The shadows are very close to the people’s feet, showing the light source is almost totally overhead. A couple shots later, you see behind Tony as he is walking, the same people in almost the same spot, with their shadows extended out further, as if the light source has moved several feet in front of them, but while they are still inside the building.
Continuity mistake: As Tony is walking over a wooded floor, there is a plant behind a yellow couch in the lounge, and the plant appears to be an orangish brown color. A few shots later as Tony is walking, you see the same plant behind him which is now green.
Continuity mistake: Right in the beginning, Tony is welding the Iron Man suit and is wearing the protective welding mask. In a close up, the mask is illuminated orange from the sparks and heat being close to the welder. It cuts to a different angle before he turns the welder off, and suddenly the mask is illuminated blue from the lights above it.
