I have been trying for years to find the title or anything about a terrifying gorilla movie I saw in the early 50's. It was in color and the first scene was a detective in a destroyed apartment, kneels down by a fireplace and a dead young woman falls headfirst (has been pulled up). As the movie progresses, each young woman killed was given a bracelet with a little bell on it. As with King Kong, the gorilla won't kill the last girl and is killed by police. Can you help?

Answer: This sounds a lot like "Phantom of the Rue Morgue": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047348/.

General questions

I hardly remember the movie and it maybe came out in the 90's or early 2000's but I think Anthony Hopkins was in it. He was like a strange man in a small town who might have been boarding at this little boy's house. It's narrated by the boy, and he helps the boy overcome the bully. The boy's mom (subplot) is single and is falling for a coworker/boss. They went on a trip somewhere for business but he ended up getting drunk and beating her. I'll get back to that later. Anthony Hopkins calls out the bully on watching his mother change, and the bully lashes out on the little boy's friend (a girl) by beating her with a bat by the river. Her books float away, and she is taken to the boy's house where Anthony Hopkins helps her put her arm back in her socket. Now enters the mom who had just been beaten and she's bitter/mad and thinks Anthony is molesting the girl. That's all I remember.

Answer: That's "Hearts in Atlantis". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252501/.

General questions

I watched a movie (in the nineties, maybe late eighties) and I could have sworn a character was played by Kevin Bacon, but I have checked his films. The movie was based on a young woman who moved or arrived back into a town and she keeps on seeing a ghost of a little girl. There was also maybe an apparent murder or mystery in that town and Kevin Bacon was a young local who worked in a car workshop. From my memory she was warned off him, he was somewhat frowned upon, maybe from locals? She eventually got into a relationship with him and as I recall they had a love scene in a lighthouse? I just cannot remember the name of the movie or any actors. (This is not Stir Of Echoes as previously answered. In Stir Of Echoes Kevin Bacon and his son see the ghost of a teenage girl murdered in their house. He was already married and no scene in this movie took place in a lighthouse). So another answer to this question will be appreciated.

Chosen answer: Could it be "Buried Secrets" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115788/)? If that is the case, the actor was Channon Roe, not Kevin Bacon.

General questions

I watched this movie when i was small (in the 90's),wherein the lead actor or the villain (I'm not sure)has a severely burnt face and wears a mask always.towards the end there is a scene showing him without his mask, his lips have been burnt off and you can only see the teeth. The last scene shows him walking away as the woman he rescued (not sure) stares at his retreating figure. I really have to know the name of this movie. I know it's not adequate, but this is all i can remember. Hopefully you can help. Thank you.

Answer: That sounds a lot like Sam Raimi's "Darkman": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099365/.

I am looking for the name of a 1980's movie (I believe). I don't remember much, but i do remember the weapon and the hero had to go on a journey to rescue a lady. The weapon was a silver star with blades that popped out. The movie is not "Legend" with Tom Cruise.

Answer: Sounds like "Krull" from 1983. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085811/.

I am looking for the name of a movie. It was some sort of fighting movie and the only thing I can remember is a little boy that was tied up and hanging over some sort of well. It was a lady standing there, and the bad guy holding the rope. The little boy slips off his shoe so that the lady can see how much time she has to fight all the bad guys before she has to grab the end of the rope before the little boy hits the bottom. She then fights all the bad guys and catches the rope in the nick of time.

Answer: That's "Ultraviolet", starring Milla Jovovich. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0370032/.

General questions

In the mid-70s, prior to 1978, I saw a TV movie about a teenage girl struggling with drug addiction. I think she had typical hair style for the time, dark, parted in the middle, and long. After rehab(?), she goes back home, but her parents' attention is grossly misdirected and eventually drive her back to drugs. She had a younger sister. In the end, they find her dead in her room, but I can't remember if her death was caused by suicide or accidental OD, but I think it was suicide. I thought it had the name Alice in the title, and I thought it might have been called "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" but from looking it up, I think I am wrong. Does anyone know the name of this movie?

Answer: "Go Ask Alice", from 1973. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068644/.

General questions

About ten years ago, I was watching a movie or show while trying to fall asleep. I was only 6 years old, so it is no wonder why I cannot remember anything about it other than this: A female was tied to a tree and she was being tortured. She at one point, she had twigs replaced for her hands, in her head, and her feet. This was not a cartoon so it scared me alot. Then there was a dinner scene, and a large group of people were sitting and a fight broke out and someone stabbed the other person with a fork in the throat. Then large white laundry looking bags were put over all the dead bodies. I could have sworn that I saw Alan Cummings but I was very young at the time so who knows.

Answer: It sounds a lot like "Titus", starring Anthony Hopkins. It's a somewhat different take (visually, at least) on Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus".

I am trying to figure out the name of a movie I watched. It started with a scene in a hotel, where a girl/hooker was killed in the bathroom. She was cut up in the bathtub. It was released around the same time as "Wild Things", as that is what I thought it was, but that wasn't it.

Answer: That would be "Very Bad Things", starring Christian Slater.

Does anyone ever remember remember seeing or hearing about a TV movie that was shown live? I remember, 5-7 years ago, that my mom told me she was watching a movie shown in this way. I think I remember it being black and white. Sound familiar to anyone?

Answer: "Fail Safe" was broadcast live on CBS April 9, 2000, and it is in black and white. It is a story set during the cold war, where a so-called fail-safe warning system malfunctions, and a bomber squadron goes off to bomb Moscow while everyone else is trying desperately to stop them before the time runs out. It stars such people as George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Don Cheadle, Richard Dreyfuss, Sam Elliott, just to mention a few.

I am trying to find out the name of a cartoon that used to come on back in the 80's about a guy who had the powers of animals. I think he was a sheriff in the show and his rival was a old skeleton looking dude in all black. I think it took place like in the desert although I could be wrong about that but his power as far as I can remember came from a bear, a hawk, and I think a cheetah or something?

Rollin Garcia Jr

Chosen answer: You are probably thinking of "BraveStarr". It was a sci-fi cartoon where he was the marshal of an outlaw planet called New Texas during a "goldrush" (although what they were searching for was a stuff called kerium, not gold). Bravestarr could call upon different animal totems to get the eyesight of a hawk, the strength of a bear, speed of a puma or hearing of a wolf.
