Corrected entry: When the monsters appear in the lobby and Shaggy yells, " Scooby Doo, where are you?", before Shaggy yells that, you can see Shaggy look at his mark of where to stop running.
Correction: I just watched the movie and he is not looking for a mark. If you watch the other people in front of him they are running down stairs, so he could be looking down so he doesn't trip.

In the "Cast Commentary" version of the movie, Matthew Lillard admits that he was looking for the mark.
