Trivia: Despite being a cult favourite, the film was notoriously out of print for nearly 20 years and not available to stream due to rights issues, causing existing Blu-Rays to be scalped for hundreds of dollars. Rumour has it director Kevin Smith even purposely leaked the 1080p Blu-Ray version of the film online because he felt bad about it. In 2024, Smith was finally able to supervise a deal to get it a new re-release on 4K, Blu-Ray and digital in 2025 for a belated "25th anniversary" rerelease.

Trivia: Kevin Smith stated that days before news broke about Harvey Weinstein's sex abuse, Weinstein called him out of the blue asking about making a "Dogma 2" due to the first film being a cult favourite. Smith began brainstorming ideas, only to be shocked when the news broke. Smith stated that he believed Weinstein was trying to make people loyal to him by offering them dream projects before the news broke. Smith also said he knew Weinstein cheated on his wife, but not that he was a sexual predator.

Trivia: Kevin Smith reportedly did not get along at all with star Linda Fiorentino, who he found difficult and unpleasant. (In Smith's defense, Fiorentino reportedly had a reputation for being a diva behind-the-scenes on many of her films, and her career came to an abrupt halt in the 2000's due to her reputation and her ties to a major criminal case.) Smith has since confessed that he wished he had cast Janeane Garofalo, who has a small cameo role at the beginning of the film, in the lead part.
