Question: Tod is only a cub the first time he encounters Amos Slade. Amos swears to shoot Tod the next time he sees the latter on his property. Amos leaves for a long hunting trip the next day and doesn't see Tod again until after he returns home. Tod is full grown before Amos returns. When Amos sees a full-grown Tod in his yard during the night, he yells, "It's that fox again." How does he know it's Tod?

Johman

Answer: As there're no obvious markings on Tod that Amos could recognize, it seems it's just an assumption on his part that it's the same fox he previously chased off his property. He probably says the same thing to any fox he sees.

Answer: Arthur was voiced by three actors. Rickie Sorenson and Richard and Robert Reitherman. Rickie originally voiced Arthur but, during production of the film, Rickie hit puberty causing his voice to change, so Wolfgang Reitherman chose to use his own sons to replace Rickie.

Question: Olaf fades away once Elsa dies because he can't live without her magic. He is only revived by Elsa after she revives. The post-credit scene shows Olaf in Elsa's ice palace telling a story to Marshmallow, the giant snowman and the tiny snowmen. How is it possible that Marshmallow and the tiny snowmen are still alive after Elsa froze to death? Did Elsa guess they have faded away too and managed to revive them? Did she even have to rebuild her ice palace?

Johman

Answer: Since the answer is not given in the movie, I think you have found a plot hole and a possible solution for it.

Question: When Miguel first meets Hector, Hector claims he used to work with Ernesto, who Miguel initially thought was his great-great grandfather. When Hector confronts Ernesto after Miguel first meets him, Hector reveals how Ernesto murdered him with poisoned wine. Why doesn't Hector tell Miguel that earlier when they first meet?

Johman

Answer: Because Hector didn't realise he had been poisoned until The scene where they meet. It is only after he sees the scene from Ernesto's movie that he puts it together.

Exactly. It's shown in the film that Hector, and other souls, believe he died from eating bad food. Hence his embarrassing nickname.

Question: During the musical number "Gaston," was Luke Evans actually physically capable of lifting Josh Gad and a woman on his shoulders or did Josh Gad and the woman have suspension strings attached to them?

Johman

Chosen answer: He may well be strong enough to perform such a feat, but considering that each movie scene is filmed a number of times in order to get the best version, it would be physically impossible and dangerous to all the actors for this stunt to be performed without safety harnesses and suspension cables.

Question: After Rapunzel locks an unconscious Flynn in her closet, Gothel returns home and Rapunzel tries to show her Flynn to prove her bravery and confidence. After Gothel screams at her, Rapunzel suddenly hesitates to open the closet door. What would have happened if Rapunzel actually opened the closet door and Gothel saw Flynn then?

Johman

Chosen answer: Gothel would have most likely killed Flynn.

Question: When Maurice enters through the castle gate while being chased by wolves, why do the wolves stop before the gate? Why don't they continue chasing Maurice from there?

Johman

Chosen answer: If it's not magic, likely they know that a stronger animal (the Beast) lives there and don't want to enter its territory.

Question: I have questions about the horses in terms of their breeds. Is Gaston's horse a Friesian, Lefou's horse a Gypsy Vanner, and Belle's horse (Philippe) a Percheron?

Johman

Chosen answer: Gaston's horse was actually a Friesian cross. Incidentally, it was the same horse Luke Evans rode in "The Hobbit". Purebred Friesians were used to pull the prison wagon. Belle's horse was a Spanish horse, an Andalusian. And actually 3 different horses were used for Belle's horse, 2 of which had to be painted each day. I do believe for some of the action scenes, one of the horses was a Percheron. Lefou's horse does appear to be a Gypsy Vanner.

Bishop73

I don't understand why Philippe was played by Andalusian when he was Belgium draught, don't get me wrong but Andalusian are incredibly beautiful horses but Philippe identity was a Belgian draft.

Are you referring to the 1991 cartoon and asking why the change? Or are you saying in the 2017 film he is identified as a Belgium draft? There were a handful of changes made in the 2017 film that seemed to make Belle more empowered. Or the filmmakers simply may have wanted a different look. Of course, there are many mistake entries pointing out inaccurate breeds being used or named if that's what you're suggesting.

Storks (2016)

Question: While Junior initially hesitates to fire Tulip as Hunter orders him to, he does not tell her he was supposed to fire her until after Jasper saves them from the wolves. Why doesn't Junior tell Tulip she's fired earlier when he is upset with her for crashing the plane?

Johman

Chosen answer: He simply does not have the nerve. Even when he is angry with her, he knows telling her she's fired would be incredibly hurtful for Tulip.

Question: At the end of the film, when Tulip reunites with her family, the wolf pack is there along with Junior and the other birds to support Tulip. I don't get it. What made the wolves reform? What made them switch to Junior and Tulip's side?

Johman

Chosen answer: A direct reason for the wolves switching to Junior and Tulip's side is not given specifically, so the reason for them switching sides can only be speculated. Perhaps they were thankful that the baby is now in safe hands and made amends with the storks for it.

The Rescuers (1977)

Question: When Brutus and Nero return Penny to the riverboat after catching her while she tries to run away, what would have happened if Medusa was already at the riverboat by then instead searching the swamp in her swamp mobile?

Johman

Chosen answer: She may have been very upset with Penny for running away. But she may have also had a talk with her like she does much later in the movie about why she needs her for finding the diamond.

Question: After Pigeon Toady finds Junior and Tulip with the baby girl, he returns to Conservatoire to make the report to Hunter. While Hunter strategizes in tracking down Junior and Tulip, Toady points out that they don't know where they going. That reduces Hunter in planning to change the address of the baby's homing beacon. Why doesn't Toady use his phone to call Hunter once he finds Junior and Tulip, and why doesn't he continue to follow them?

Johman

Chosen answer: Toady is intent on impressing Hunter by reporting Junior and Tulip to him. He was likely so eager to report Junior and Tulip to Hunter that he forgot all about where Junior and Tulip were going off too, but instead to let Hunter know about what was happening and likely be given some recognition from him.

Question: After Hunter falls off Stork Mountain and Junior and Tulip survive the fall, Jasper shows up with blankets which he suggests the storks use to deliver the newly produced babies. If Jasper was at the factory by the time Hunter caused Junior and Tulip to fall, why doesn't he fly down to save them?

Johman

Chosen answer: There were hundreds of other storks who were there who chose to not fly down, Jasper was not the only stork who didn't fly down to help Junior and Tulip. The other storks were standing there looking over the edge, to see if anyone from the collapsing building would come back. Since the storks can fly, they all likely, including Jasper, assumed Junior could just fly back to the other section of the building, or perhaps were unsure if Junior and Tulip would still be alive, so did not want to risk themselves getting killed.

Storks (2016)

Question: When Nate writes a letter to the Stork company, he writes that he wants a baby brother, not a sister. If the baby-manufacturing machine can read Nate's letter, why does it produce a baby girl instead of a boy? Also, how come the baby girl has pink hair while her mother has platinum blonde hair and her father and brother have brown hair?

Johman

Chosen answer: The baby-manufacturing machine had been shut down for some time when Tulip wrongly inserted the letter requesting a baby boy. The machine, which presumably would not be working efficiently after such a long hiatus, accidentally produced a baby girl. That may be why the hair color did not match either parent. Also, this is an animated film that has little to do with the reality of biology. The baby is a girl, so pink hair would be an obvious choice. If it was a boy, it would probably be blue.

raywest

Answer: It could honestly be that he "needed" a little sister more than a little brother. Having a sister can be a completely different experience than having a brother, and the machine might have gone against his wishes because it would have been a better fit for their family. Additionally, it could also just be that there's a chance that the machine has the odds of having a boy or a girl at random, and that when a parent requests it, there's always a chance that it will not follow it to a tee.

Storks (2016)

Question: After shutting down their business in delivering babies, why didn't the storks destroy the baby-manufacturing factory?

Johman

Chosen answer: It could have been for a number of reasons. It would be expensive and time consuming to completely dismantle and remove a large piece of machinery. It may have been something that was being delayed until a later time or was to be sold. Perhaps the machinery, after retooling, would be reused for another purpose, and so on.

raywest

Answer: At around the end of the movie, you could see that when Hunter goes down with the package factory, you could see that the factory was connected to the Baby Factory off the side of the mountain. They probably didn't have the time to demolish that one and then rebuild the packages.

Tangled (2010)

Question: Judging by Maximus' appearance and the fact "Tangled" is set in Germany, is Maximus a Hanoverian or a different German breed?

Johman

Chosen answer: His breed has never been confirmed, but he does have enough similarities to a Hanoverian that it's possible that's what he is.

Answer: The Hanoverian breed of horse was first bred at the State Stud at Celle in Lower Saxony. This was established in 1735 by George II, who was both the King Of Great Britain and the "Elector" (or ruler) of the state of Hanover. But, while Tangled is set in a land that might have some resemblance to pre-modern Germany, it also appears take place much earlier than 1735. Therefore Maximus cannot truly be a Hanoverian. However, staff at the Celle State Stud used native German horses when breeding the first Hanoverians, so there might be a distant "family resemblance" between Maximus and the Hanoverian breed. Most (but not all) Hanoverians are dark coloured. Another thread in an earlier question about Tangled says the artists originally coloured Maximus black. However, Tangled is a fantasy film. Maximus can communicate with people in a much more meaningful way than any Hanoverian (or any other breed of horse). So maybe Tangled should not be regarded as wholly accurate in equine matters.

Storks (2016)

Question: Despite both his parents having blue eyes, how come Nate has brown eyes? Is there a scientific/logical explanation for this?

Johman

Answer: That's one possibility. Or, the boy could have been adopted by the parents. That would fit with much of the theme of the film and one of the actors is a father through adoption. As adoptive parents with blue/green eyes and a child with brown eyes, we chose to believe it was a subtle nod to that situation. Also, the parents seem pretty convinced a baby brother isn't coming. Perhaps there were fertility issues that contribute to that confidence and led to creating a family through adoption. I think that's a better story than a remote scientific possibility. :).

Chosen answer: Yes there is a biological explanation for two blue-eyed parents having a brown-eyed child, and it does happen. It's a bit more complicated than high school genetics' dominant/recessive gene explanation. Eye color is determined by 2 genes, HERC2 and OCA2. Both genes are required for pigment to form (i.e. brown eyes), HERC2 being the key. People with blue-eyes can be carriers of one or the other, thus the offspring of 2 blue-eyed parents can end up receiving both required genes for brown eyes.
