Schindler's List (1993)

Question: When the little girl in the read coat goes inside to hide during the liquidation of the ghetto, she goes under a bed. Why isn't her coat red anymore?

Answer: It's open to interpretation because it was a directorial decision. But the technique was a way to direct the audience's eye towards what Schindler was observing during the chaotic outdoor scenes. Once the girl's inside, the shot is no longer from his perspective since Schindler can't see her anymore, so the red was no longer necessary.

Question: When Dooku and Obi-wan are fighting, Dooku says that Yoda holds Obi-wan in such high esteem. But how would he know that if he left the Jedi Order years ago and probably hasn't been talking to Yoda for a while?

Answer: Though not stated in the films, Dooku had been a member of the Jedi Order until sometime after Qui-Gon Jin's death. But probably also after Obi-Wan was given the title of Jedi Knight and Anakin his Padawan by Yoda. So Dooku could very well have known Yoda's feelings of esteem, even if it was years ago.

JC Fernandez

That whole conversation between Obi-Wan and Dooku is also part of Dooku's fighting style. He was deliberately trying to get into Obi-Wan's head and get at his ego, so as to get him to loose his cool or try something brash in order to "show up" Dooku, etc. He didn't therefore need to actually know if Yoda held Obi-Wan in high esteem, he was just saying it in order to try and goad Obi-Wan into living up that "praise" and thus make a mistake; whether he was telling the truth was irrelevant.

General questions

I believe this was a made for TV movie in the 70s or 80s. From memory, it was about two young boys that meet at a camp for bad boys. One boy wets the bed and runs away when the other kids find out. The older boy follows him and they begin a road trip. I also remember a scene with a herd of buffalo. Does anybody know the title of this movie?

Answer: This sounds like "Bless the Beasts and the Children" with Billy Mumy.

JC Fernandez

Chosen answer: Seeing as this is *scripted* television, they of course knew.

Question: In the trivia section, it's stated that the name Bruce Banner was changed to David Banner in order to avoid misleading audiences on the sexual orientation of the character. In which way is the name Bruce related to being gay? May be to obvious, but I'm not familiar with American pop culture.

www.translingua.com.mx

Chosen answer: There are many jokes, especially in the late 70's, equating Bruce with "gay." There's nothing that makes the name gay. But like "Lance" or "Percy," it's a stereotype perpetuated by popular culture.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Question: Everyone says how Batman/Bruce Wayne has a darkness to him, but I can't really understand how, seeing how he is trying to do the right thing and save people. Can someone please explain this to me.

Answer: Let's see... There's the trauma of witnessing his parents' murder. There's the guilt he felt with feeling partly responsible for their deaths (if he hadn't gotten scared at the opera, they wouldn't have been in that alley). There's the anger that he never got to exact justice on Joe Chill (someone else took him out before he did). There's the fact he actually *planned* to commit the murder of Joe Chill. And that's all *before* he's Batman. Since donning the suit, he works outside the law, using questionable (and often illegal) methods to do the "right thing" (breaking and entering, assault and battery, destruction, torture, etc.)

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Question: When Peter goes to the doctor after losing his powers, he lies to the the doctor about a dream that he had, where he was Spider-Man and he was losing his powers. Then, after describing it, he says that it is actually his friend's dream. Chances are that the doctor saw through him, and suspects that Peter really is Spider-Man. Will the doctor end up being a villain, or at least have a significant part in upcoming movies?

Answer: If the doctor saw through Peter's lie, chances are he would disbelieve the part about "a friend" having the dream, not that the dream itself is a lie.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Question: This is minor, but it's driving me crazy. Does anyone know why does the Mayor wear heavy eye-liner? I understand that actors wear make-up sometimes but this is very noticeable.

Answer: He doesn't. That's just the way the actor's eyes look. It's seen in everything he does.

Jurassic Park (1993)

Question: In the beginning of the movie we have a Dinosaur. However, later the guys find the rock/sap with the mosquito in it and Hammond say they used the DNA from the mosquito to help with the creation of the dinosaurs. Then how did they have the dinosaur at the beginning of the movie?

Answer: The mining for amber to find dinosaur DNA was an ongoing project. They never created dinosaurs out of the ambered mosquito found in the movie... the dinosaurs in the movie were from other pieces of amber dug up sometime before the movie takes place.

I Am Legend (2007)

Question: I know someone else asked something like this, but how did deer get there? I've never seen a zoo with any and New York City is on an island.

Answer: Just because you've never seen one at a zoo doesn't mean they don't exist there. But petting zoos are known to have young deer... They grow quickly. Or perhaps the deer came from an animal testing facility. Or perhaps they were just being transported through the island when the crisis struck. Or perhaps it's because deer repopulate at above average rates. (Manhattan did have deer back in the day... They got there somehow).

I Am Legend (2007)

Answer: He didn't become immune, he simply *was* immune. The reason for his immunity was the point of his research.

JC Fernandez

With the odds so long against immunity, isn't it a little... convenient that America's greatest virologist just happens to be immune to the virus that has all but wiped out mankind?

Millions of people were immune to the virus. They just all mostly died because the infected killed and ate them.

General questions

Are the contestants on Wheel of Fortune encouraged to buy vowels? It seems like as soon as someone gets some money they immediately start buying vowels.

Answer: By buying a vowel, you can guess a letter without the risk of landing on Bankrupt or Lose A Turn. Vowels are also extremely useful in figuring out the number of syllables in the word.

Question: Why does it take the Federation two months to do anything about the explosion on Praxis?

Cubs Fan

Chosen answer: Because (as we see in the first ten minutes of the film) the prideful Klingons didn't want anyone entering their space.

General questions

Am I crazy or was there a movie or series named Rose Petal something or other? I think there was this little girl (or boy) who was moving away and cried on a rose and suddenly we, the viewer, were whisked away to a land where these people lived amongst the roses and various other flowers? Does anyone remember it and remember the name? I remember seeing a trailer for it on a strawberry shortcake VHS i rented one day with my mom as a young child.

Answer: A quick check on IMDb.com reveals Rose Petal Place is the title you're looking for.

Answer: Wonka is simply uncomfortable around people. Gum chewing is simply an annoyance he never had to put up with as a recluse.

Day 2: 7:00 A.M.-8:00 A.M. - S2-E24

Question: At the end of the episode is the famous scene where the woman shakes hands with Palmer and gives him some kind of poison. When the camera first pans onto her it zooms in and suspenseful music plays. This indicates to me that we are supposed to be surprised who she is. Did I miss something? Was she on the show before and her appearance as the assassin supposed to be a surprise? Or was everything just for dramatic effect?

SAZOO1975

Chosen answer: She was in the first season. She was the woman who destroys and then parachutes out of the airplane in the first episode of the series.

Season 3 generally

Question: At the end of season 2, President Palmer relieves Mike of his duties. However in season 3 Mike is back working with Palmer. Did I miss something?

SAZOO1975

Chosen answer: Season 3 takes place three years after Season 2. Palmer could've forgiven and moved on in that time.

JC Fernandez

Question: Is it really possible for submarines and other naval vessels some distance away to hear the music coming from someone's headphones, as in the story the COB tells? I know water channels sound quite well, but this seems a stretch to me.

Answer: He was using the sub to play the music into the water, but listening to it through the headphones. So the sound emanated from the sub, not his headphones. Sub sonar is quite sensitive and if close enough sound can be heard through the hull.

General questions

When I was a kid, I remember seeing a movie in the early 80's, and all I can remember is at the end, a ghost train comes crashing through the house in the living room. Prior to this, you can see the light approaching, and I think there was a kid that yelled that the train was coming towards the house. Anyone know what film this was? It may have been a made for TV movie, but I think it was a regular film.

Jazetopher

Chosen answer: Could you be thinking of the Spielberg-penned "Ghost Train" episode of "Amazing Stories"?
