Corrected entry: Early in the film, the girl says, "If you have one more felony, they'll take me away." If he had any felony, he wouldn't be able to vote. Kind of blows the whole film out of the water.

Correction: The basic premise of the movie blows the entire movie out of the water. The President is elected by electoral votes, individual votes do not mean anything. You have to file this under "suspension of disbelief".

Except that in the state of New Mexico, ex-cons are permanently banned from voting. Since both presidential candidates want all of Bud's information, his criminal past would be made available to them and they would also realise the same thing.
