Corrected entry: In the scene where Lester (the cop) comes back to the shed where he's staying with Kathy, he's obviously just come back from work and leaves right after that to go to see his wife and kids. Then when Kathy goes into her trunk, she finds his police belt and gun. Why did he put his equipment in her trunk? They have no contact with each other between these two scenes, so he couldn't have given these things to her.

Correction: Lester went to work using Kathy's car (see the scene where his wife is trying to beat him up), so he probably took off his stuff and put it in its trunk after work, before coming back to the shack, and left it there.
