Factual error: In the infamous Highland bus scene, the driver can be seen issuing tickets from a computerised ticketing machine - astonishing really - the film is set in the early 70s.

Breaking the Waves (1996)
Directed by: Lars von Trier
Starring: Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgard, Jean-Marc Barr, Katrin Cartlidge
Continuity mistake: When Bess goes to the ship the first time one of the men cuts across the back of her blouse, starting from the right shoulder. In all later shots the cut starts at the left shoulder. (02:00:10)
Other mistake: In the scene where Bess' body is thrown into the sea there's a shot of Jan's head injury. The area around the well healed scars is freshly shaven and shiny. Such a long time after the last surgery there would be at least some stubble. (01:25:15)
Jan Nyman: Love is a mighty power, isn't it?
Bess McNeill: I don't understand what you're saying. How can you love a word? You cannot love words. You can't be in love with a word. You can only love another human being. That's perfection.
The Minister: Can you think of anything of real value that the outsiders have brought with them?
Bess McNeill: Uh... their music.
