I used to play this at an old church group pastor's house for group gatherings.
Oh how the mighty had fallen. Granted I think the series got worse after this, but I really don't like Mario Kart Wii at all.
They took the design philosophy of equity in racing way too far. See they saw how if one person got good at the game, he'd always win in party or family settings and they thought that would mean it was not fun for any of the other players.
that one person would always be the dominate racer and so they started implementing systems into Mario Kart to try to make it fair for everybody.
Which just means making it less and less skill based, more and more item and luck based.
It gets way worse in later games but Mario Kart Wii is still really bad about this.
Nintendo, take Mario Kart back to it's golden years.

Trivia: In 'Moon view Highway' the trucks are references to previous tracks. There's 'Coconut Fruits' (Coconut mall) 'Moo Moo Dairy' (Moo Moo Meadows) and ' (picture of a mushroom) Factory' (Toads Factory).
