Pain & Gain

Factual error: The movie is set around 1995. But the SWAT team in the movie is wearing gear from the 2000s. (MICH-2000 helmet, modular tactical vest, M4 variant with picatinny rails and scope). Plus, in a scene when the guys are shopping for a taser (gun shop scene), some of the rifles on display are from 2000s era. AR-15 variants with variant stock, foregrip and picatinny rail. Those style of weapon system were unheard of in early 90s. Even Special Forces just adopted it by the late 90s.

Continuity mistake: When Pastor Randy hands Paul a glass of iced tea, the lemon slice falls off the glass to the ground, but in the next shot we see Paul drinking, the lemon slice is back on the glass. (00:24:40)

Factual error: While cutting out bloody bits of carpet after the couple is murdered, there is a GameCube controller on the floor by what appears to be a table leg. If the events occurred 1995-1996 as the movie states in captions, then the controller went back in time to be there. The GameCube wasn't available until 2001.

Factual error: In the 1995 part the police cars are Ford Crown Victorias, 2nd generation, but this car was first launched in 1998.

Factual error: When the SWAT team arrives at the start they have LED lights on their truck. The film is set in 1995 and the first American car with LED lights was available in 2000. (00:01:30)

Ssiscool

Factual error: When the SWAT teams come to arrest all the criminals, they are shown having the EOTech holographic weapon sight on their rifles. The story happens in 1995 and EOTech introduced the first holographic sight in 1998.

Continuity mistake: When Daniel is lifting at home and Johnny Wu is on TV you can see a red and white MET-Rx protein container with silver dolphins on it right beside the TV. The camera switches angles and it's gone, then switches back and it's there, then it's gone again.

Visible crew/equipment: When they are going to the hospital to find Kershaw, in the outer scene on the right side a camera crane is visible. (01:00:20)

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Paul is trying to get Victor drunk, the cameraman can be seen reflected in the left side (viewer's right) of Victor's goggles. (00:52:10)

Phaneron

Factual error: When the guys are trying to dump the body of the porn guy, in the background of a shot when they are driving the van, you can see a 2001 BMW 7 and a 2013 Ford Mustang. Odd, seeing how the movie is set in 94/95. (01:40:45)

Friso94

Revealing mistake: When Kershaw is driving the car from the passenger seat, as the car crashes through the roadside stands, you can plainly see a stunt driver driving the car.

Revealing mistake: When the guy at the gun store gets shot with the taser the darts just bounce off him, but he acts as if he is getting shocked.

Visible crew/equipment: When Doyle goes into Kershaw's office you can see the camera crew in the reflection of Pepe's glass door.

Factual error: Early in the movie, Daniel's boss "starts reading Fortune Magazine" thanks to the new success of the gym. We are supposed to still be in the late '94 phase of the events (before Christmas, when he gets promoted) but the issue John is reading with Bob Eiger on the cover ("Disney's Epic Year") is the April 17, 1995 one. (00:09:10)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Tony Shalhoub at the beginning of the movie sits at the bench saying that he does not like weights "because they're heavy." This takes place between 2 shots: in the second one the guy in the background wearing black tank and light pants, exercising with a red ball, suddenly is standing closer to the women at the machine, just so he can get in frame. (00:04:00)

Sammo

Factual error: On the phone with the private detective, Tony Shalhoub snarls "Everything's old in this freakin' hospital", which is ironic considering just by his bed there's a compact and very modern looking LCD monitor, out of place in a dingy hospital facility in 1995. (01:01:30)

Sammo

Factual error: In the Schlotzky's restaurant in the background, the fountain drink stall has the new Pepsi logo on it, and also the cash registers are LCD-touch screen devices, with modern pricing displayed. All wrong for 1995. (00:30:45)

Factual error: Miami-Dade County wasn't used as its name in 1995, when the film is set. It wasn't changed to that until 1997.
