Django Unchained

Continuity mistake: In the first shot of Stephen writing a check to the Harris Feed Co: The "i" is connected to the second "r", the numeric dollar amount is "68.00" (with the period barely visible), the written dollar amount is "Sixty Five", and in the year of the check, "58", the numbers are touching and the "5" looks somewhat like a "6." Seconds later, in the next shot, which is more of a closeup of the check: the "i" is no longer connected to the second "r", the numeric dollar amount is now "65.00" (with the period very visible), the written dollar amount remains as "Sixty Five", but the handwriting (as with the rest of the check) is somewhat different than in the 1st shot, and the year is now written as "58", with the numbers no longer touching and the "5" looking like a "5." Continuity mistake: In the opening scene where Schultz and the Speck brothers first meet, Schultz gets off his carriage and lights a lantern. However, the already lit lantern hanging from the left side of the carriage goes from lit, to unlit (or missing), and back to lit as the scene progresses. (00:05:00)

Continuity mistake: When Django and Dr. Schultz ride into Daughtrey, Texas. In the town there is a kid with some goats. There are goats behind and in front of Django and Dr. Schultz. When they change angles all the goats are in front, with no goats behind them. (00:14:10)

Continuity mistake: The amount of beer in the glass during the first beer scene in the movie changes between shots. It is half full, then after a while it is almost full again. (00:16:00 - 00:16:55)

Continuity mistake: When Django and Dr. King Schulz meet Spencer Bennett at the front of his house, there's a group of women and some men in the back near the gates. The amount of people changes between shots. (00:29:10)

Continuity mistake: After first arriving at Candieland, Calvin Candie is explaining to Steven who Django is and that they will be staying in the big house. During this scene, cuts between Calvin and Steven show Calvin's legs alternating between crossed in one angle and uncrossed in the other angle, multiple times. The lawyer's arms also go from being crossed to uncrossed when Calvin does the introductions between Django and Steve. (01:28:30 - 01:30:30)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Stephen is shocked that Django will be staying in the big house responding with "if you ain't got no problem burning the bed the sheets", you can see Calvin place his pipe in his left hand and start to point at Stephen with his right hand, saying "that is my problem, they are mine to burn" then his pipe is magically in his right hand again. (01:30:00)

Continuity mistake: When Django takes cover by the hallway, several guys shoots at him from the doorway, making the wall behind him riddled with holes. The next shot, no holes. These holes disappears and reappears several times. (02:12:30) Premium member

Continuity mistake: When Cora and Sheba are leaving the house, they are using the left panel of the double door, opening it inward. But when Django leaves the house, using the right door panel, you can see an astragal (the seal between a pair of doors) attached to the far side of the left panel. This would have prevented the left door panel from being opened inward as Cora did. (02:38:00 - 02:39:55)

Continuity mistake: At the very beginning of the movie the two brothers on horseback are walking with 6 slaves. When they are confronted by the dentist that is looking for Django there are only five slaves.

Bj Bunney

Continuity mistake: During the first shootout scene inside Candiland, when Django rolls off Leonide Moguy (Candie's Lawyer) he rolls to the right of the shot, away from the room he had just come from. However in the next scene when the door is kicked in we see Django moving and shooting from the opposite side of the room, towards the side he should already be.

Continuity mistake: SPOILER: When Calvin dies he pushes the globe and makes it spin very slowly, almost coming to a stop when he falls down. When the angle changes, the globe is spinning really fast.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Django shoots Smitty Bacall, the plough that he is using can be seen on the far left of the field and moving at a slow pace. But when Dr Schultz puts his wanted poster away, the plough is suddenly on the far right of the field having not had enough time to have turned round and moved that far.

Continuity mistake: When Django is on the hill with Schultz aiming at the farmer, rocks appear in front of him in the angles shot from behind, but disappear in the front shots.

Continuity mistake: When Calvin Candie talks to Dr Schultz about his "first, second, third, fourth & fifth concern", his sister Lara puts her glass down on the table, only to have it in her hand again immediately afterwards.

Continuity mistake: When Django gives himself up, the body that he used as a human shield moves from the centre of the door frame to the left of the door frame.

Factual error: In the scene after the Mandingo fight in the Cleopatra club, when Leonardo DiCaprio gives his slave a beer, it is served in a flip top bottle. The first flip-top closure was created by Charles de Quillfeldt in the United States, who filed for a patent on 30 November 1874, receiving patent number 158406.

Trivia: When we see the "regulators" riding over the hill on the way to kill Django and Schultz, if you look carefully at the right-center portion of screen, you can see one of the stuntmen fall off his horse and the horse continues to run down the hill without him. To make matters even worse, it appears the stuntman rolls right in front of another horse and gets trampled. (00:41:00)

Chosen answer: There is nothing in the film to indicate that he is not. He has the paperwork to prove the bounty he was pursuing, and he is not held by the authorities or charged with any crime, so we can assume that he was.
