Professor Moriguchi defuses Shuya's bomb before the ceremony and Shuya's speech. When Shuya uses his cell phone to detonate the bomb, he kills his mother at the university lab. Moriguchi, after defusing the bomb, took it to Shuya's mother to show her what he's done with his skills and told her that he was looking forward to meet with her after all these years. After being told by Moriguchi that he's killed his mother, Shuya breaks down in horror of what he's done. The final scene is Moriguchi saying to Shuya: "I've had my revenge and now you will begin your redemption."
