9

Question: What exactly did 9 accomplish by getting 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8 out of the beast? I didn't understand the ending, as they would still be dead whether or not they were inside the beast.

Answer: So glad you asked this! He releases their spirits because they are life. Life from the scientist. Preserved life. Small bacteria probably. So the world can start over. Yes, it's sad that they won't get to interact with the physical bodies of their friends, but in a way, 1,2,5,6 and 8 will always be with them. They are the fathers of the world's new organisms. The beast was corrupt so it was trying to prevent life from happening. It hated the humans because it was turned into a war machine. It captured them but could not kill them. The reason the dolls were created, their sole purpose, was to release the life that they were preserving into the sky and across the world. So, that in time and very slowly, things could begin again. they AREN'T dead and they never were. Life was just trapped. And now it is free.

This was beautifully explained and I can see your love for this movie in it. I have loved this movie so much, it is nice to see others enjoy it as well. Really wish we got a sequel.

Question: It was explained in the movie that that the scientist gave his life to 1 through 9, and that each one has a different part of him. Why, then would 7 be a female? Shouldn't they all be male, all being part of the scientist?

Answer: All men have an X chromosome, whereas women have two, so it a fair leap of logic to assume that some part of every male's psyche is feminine to some degree.

She might have been someone that the scientist loved. You know how they say that who ever you love will always be in your heart? Or, is in your heart? That person that he loved was forever in his soul. She became a part of him. Even though we never really saw any relationships in the flashbacks.

Continuity mistake: When 9 meets 3 and 4, they open his zipper. During this scene, several close-ups show 9 with the zipper closed and open again without anyone closing or opening it.

Trivia: The Chancellor mentioned by the scientist and shown in the old archive footage appears to be a reference to Adolf Hitler, the fascist dictator of Germany from 1933 through 1945. Hitler held the title of Chancellor of Germany, until he gave himself the new title of Fuhrer. When standing in the car in what appears to be a parade, The Chancellor lifts his hand in a motion similar to that of The Hitler/Nazi Salute. The flags and banners shown on the wall when The Chancellor announces the creation of The Machine are similar to the Swastika Flag of the Nazi Party. Finally, when the Chancellor takes The Machine away from The Scientist, the soldiers who take The Scientist away resemble SS Officers (Hitler's Secret Police Force) in uniform and actions.

Question: What in the world was 8 doing when he had the magnet over his head and he became all relaxed?

Answer: The magnet was acting as a drug on him. He was in a way getting high off a magnet.

Answer: You know the Futurama scene where bender gets high off electricity? Same thing. Magnets make electrical things not work (I'm pretty sure I heard it from some where). It's like how drinking alcohol and taking drugs makes us not totally there. It's what story writers believe happens. Pretty cool story element really.
