Continuity mistake: The train that Carol takes from Washington to Baltimore is an Amtrak Acela Express train, as can be seen in the station and interior shots. The exterior shot of the train passing by shows a different type of Amtrak train.

Carol (Nicole Kidman) and her son Oliver manage to escape from the invaders and are rescued by Galeano and a group of soldiers. One year later, Galeano talks with the press and says that the number of people infected is lowering and that when people are cured they don't remember their experiences of when they were infected. With less infected people, the world goes back to the way it was: lots of murder, war, etc. Carol adopts Gene and is living with Ben (Daniel Craig) who is cured.
