After the outbreak, which is spread by Don after kissing his wife, Doyle, Scarlett, Tammy, Andy, and a few other surivovers flee. The group runs into a panicked U.S. sniper who kills all, but Doyle, Tammy, Andy, a man named Sam, and Scarlett, who takes a bullet in the leg after it bounces off a wall. Doyle kills the sniper and the group flees as District One is naplamed. Doyle and Co. meet up with Flynn who refuses to take everyone else. Sam is thrown from the chopper when he tries to get in. After the group of four runs for a while, they incounter chemical gas released by the U.S. as a part of Code Red. The group gets into a nearby car and hides out until an element of soldiers comes by, armed with a flamethrower. Doyle leaves his rifle, gets out and push starts the car, with a wink to the kids, he is engulfed in flame. Scarlett drives away, all unable to not cry for Doyle. Scarlett drives the car into the subway where it is pitch-black. Using the nightvision on the late Doyle's M4, she guides the kids through the tunnels, where they are separated. The infected Don attacks Scarlett, killing her with the muzzle-end of Doyle's rifle, which we see through the nightscope. Don runs off and attacks Andy. Tammy, using the rifle, kills her infected father, only after he bites Andy on the neck. Andy's right eye goes bloodshot: He's a carrier to the virus. The two make their way to Webley Stadium to meet Flynn, who gives them a ride. The screen goes black, but picks up with in Flynn's cockpit. A french voice sounds from the radio and noones in sight. A group of Infected run towards the Effial Tower as the credits roll on.
Raven
Command: Only target infected.
Soldier: Roger that, only targeting infected.
Rooftop Soldier: Doyle! I got 2 fuckers on me! Doyle!
Rooftop Soldier: I don't see who is the target.
Doyle: Confirm order?
Command: Rooftop unit, target everyone on ground level, no exceptions. Repeat, no exceptions.
Rooftop Soldier: I got 2 fuckers on the jeep.
Doyle: Jesus.
Question: If the infected can sense the uninfected due to the uninfected smelling clean and scented (deodorant/perfume), wouldn't the closest approximation be to just stop bathing or showering, and not wearing deodorants/perfumes? Wouldn't one rather be dirty than dead? Am I over-simplifying the situation? Do the infected sense the uninfected using some other method in conjunction with the above, thereby nullifying my hypothesis above?

Answer: I suspect that it's really not that simple. Remember that in the first film, Jim was lying alone in a hospital bed for some considerable time before waking to the deserted London. He would certainly not have smelt clean and fresh, yet he was still clearly detectable as prey by the infected. While being nice and clean makes it easy for them, it seems clear that it's not the sole indicator that triggers an attack.
